So I noticed that GAIM sell hand cranked blender, which they say can even crush ice to make drinks and it is also loud! After seeing Inconvienient Truth today, I am thinking about getting it instead of Vitamix, even if my smoohties won't be as smooth. But does it really work? Did you have any experience or heard anything about it?

hi green, I can't tell you yet if the blender works, we're thinking of getting one too. We did get a hand-cranked and solar radio, and I like that a lot... getting more upper arm definition from cranking it!!! My favorite item in the Gaiam Real Goods Solar Living Sourcebook is a device to hook your TV up to an exercise bike to power it. If I had kids, I'd get one of those for sure!
Glad to hear the movie affected you: we planted almost 5,000 trees at our place!
There was a thread on the movie if you want to post any thoughts there...

Wow! 5000 trees! You are great people! I also have a dream about buying a piece of land and creating a paradise there with at least 200 kinds of edible plants using permaculture. The only problem-my husband doesn't share my dream, and I decided to give him some time and if he won't we might be going separate ways...Even though I would not want to do that.
