I was watching The China Study video someone posted and then another one about how chocolate, cheese, and milk were addicting. About half way through I had my dad listen to it and he really did! I think ti's because I didn't say it so he believed it more. Anyway, the big thing that hit him I think was the fact that milk and prostate cancer was directly related.
HE SAID HE'LL DO THE 3 WEEK CHALLENGE OF NO DAIRY!!!!
This is after he finishes the milk and dairy products we alreayd have, but hey, it's a start and I onw have it in writing lol.
I said I'll help him, but I need your help please? His usual breakfast i milk, eggs, beans, ect. What can he do? I know the usual fruit, but he'll want his beans and rice which i'm ok with. I would say soy, but that's bad too...any suggestions?

Umm, he could try something like muesli with oat or rice milk, which I guess is better than soya milk! Sorry its not much help. Also, instead of egg, he could have a veggie burger, if he wants a replacement for protien. You have to ease into it with people who are used to having a lot of protien, so this would be a good start! Im not sure if this is what you meant, hope it was sort of helpful! Im not really sure what else to suggest!

I wouldn't go too fast with him
I'd go to the store, and get him almond milk, there is a really good one, that tastes almost like milk, it's almond breeze or something, just start slowly, then you can start making your own almond milk, and adding that in, you can start having lots more fresh fruit already cut up and waiting for him, be eating it yourself, and ask him if he wants any, don't just give it to him, it may seem like you are forcing it upon him, but if you have some, and offer it to him, it feels like you are sharing.
good luck,
and congratulations on him actually listening to what's going on.

!!! I'm so excited for you!!! I know how you feel. My dad ordered 2 raw food books from amazon last week! And one being Alissa's! I was so excited when he told me. He's debating on the whole raw thing. I have a feeling after he reads Alissa's book he will want to do it even more though. Plus, he doesn't want detox while he's working and everything. Your dad will love that you are so helpful to him. Just getting off dairy alone for 3 weeks is AMAZING! My family drinks rice milk right now and they love it! Especially the chocolate :) I bet they would love almond milk though...hmm...
Best wishes, and peace! :D

RP are you reading my mind, LOL? This is the 3rd post today where I was going to say the same things. Haha, great minds think alike sometimes.

I forgot to give suggestions on what he might want to try! How about some granola with almond milk? Or some Ezekial bread toast ("buttered" with coconut oil!), with a bowl of fruit like banana or something and a glass of almond milk? I dunno, hope you can use some of these!

Thanks. I think I'll just substitute the milk first and then eventually the egg and soy products, but he's a SLOOOOW changer so I'll work with that lol. I'm patient. I don't want to incorporate more soy items for him, but the almond, oat, and rice milk I'm sure will do. I like the toast and coconut butter idea though!
The funny thing is my mom always says "he won't change. I eat these because he does...." orsomething to that affect. Thing is now that my dad isn't my mom has no excuse ;)

If you want to make your own almond milk, be sure to try this one. My SAD parents and in-laws love it!
Almond Milk
Yield: 1 quart
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. blanched almonds
1/4 t. salt
1/2 t. vanilla
1 T. honey
3 1/2 c. water
Blend all but water until creamy. Pour into pitcher. Rinse blender with remaining 3 cups water and add to pitcher. Mix well. Refrigerate until ready to serve. If wishing to serve immediately, reduce water and add comparable amount of ice to chill.

dreamrawalwz, I'm so happy for you.
Mine father is 78 and also doesn't drink milk much.
Soymilk he doesn't like, and for me, I'm going to
try to make almond milk.
The only thing that might be a problem is cheese.
But I'll will figure that out, to solve that problem to.

I second the Almond Breeze. The Unsweetened Chocolate is now my absolute favourite.
I was at Quintessence and had an *amazing* latte of Yerba Mate with cashew milk & (assumably) agave syrup. It inspired me to try nutmilks and the Diamond Almond Breeze is definately the best I've found so far. The vanilla is pretty good, but, the chocolate is outstanding.
I tried to make Brazil Nut milk, but, I think I used too much water/left it for too long as the liquid in the container is almost gluey
Least I had lots of Almond Milk on hand as it seems to be 2 for $4 at lots of natural shops lately. For breakfast this morning, I made this smoothie:
2 bananas
About 1/2 cup unsweetened chocolate Almond Breeze
About 1/2 cup Guayaki Chocolate Mate tea
About 2 tablespoons of agave nectar
A few dashes of organic cinnamon
2 scoops of Nutiva hemp powder
Yummy, creamy goodness :D
And grats on your dad! My father eats well generally and is physically fit, but, when I hear him talk about his "hockey puck" chicken patties from Costco that he eats for lunch everyday... What drives me nuts is that he was the one to refer to them like that! Whenever he sees me bringing a bag from Whole Foods he goes "don't give your money to those rip-off artists!" Although, sometimes I have to admit that they'd don't call them "Whole Paycheck" for nothing...
