View Full Version : Gas anyone?

I'm an enthusiastic newbie who just bought an Omega 8005 juicer and went to my first raw restaurant for lunch yesterday. It was good.
Raw food makes me feel more energetic. I notice I feel sluggish if I skip a day without at least one raw meal. My question is: Does anyone get gas from raw?
I have to have a probiotic everytime I eat raw, even from the raw restaurant I went to yesterday. I get really bloated and uncomfortable without the probiotic. With the probiotic, I feel relief with lots of gas to follow. Is this normal? Could it be that I just did a colon cleanse with psyllium/bentonite shake?
BTW, I did a search on "gas" and nothing came up.
Thanks for your help.

Be cautious how you eat your fruit or fruit juice. Eat/drink these first as they take little time to digest. Could be the fruit/juice is sitting on top and fermenting. Just a tought. Actually the opposite has happened to me. I was Vegan before going raw and had gas that would make Mt. St. Helen look like nothing! For real! It has completely gone! WOO HOO!!!
I'm sure that's more then you needed to know.

Adjustment phase and watch your food combining :)
So the answer to your question?
OH YES GAS :D
It's better now but I still get bouts and it is usually because I ate something too close to melon or fruit and didn't give it time..
You will get the hang of it

Yes!! I didn't realise that the healthy raw stuff caused such an embarrassing problem.

Yeah, I get it quite a bit. But I have a MAJOR problem with food combining. Eating RP's brownies and honeydew then Saucraut (sp?) seems right to my palate these days lol

I get gassy and sometimes my stomach makes noises that others can hear and it is soooooo loud and embarassing. Sometimes the gas makes noises that sound like farts(Don't mean to sound so graphic).
Sometimes my stomach gets loud when it is time to go visit the John, and if I can't get there quick enough it just keeps rumbling and roaring loudly.
My kids laugh at me and say, hey Mom, I heard that, or I heard your stomach ma!
I wonder is there something I should do or take to eliminate or decrease the gas??

There tends to be a gassy period during the adjustment to raw food. How long that last is probably up to the individual. You might be doing that.

I noticed the same thing even before raw foods. Not sure what it could be, or why.

I still try to blame it on the 2 yr old but my 6 yr old calls me out. . .loudly! Luckily in our family we call it tooting!

Food combining solved *most* of it for me. Now, if I could just get rid of the bloating...

For me it just took time. I think it was 3 or 4 months before I didn't have to time my eating far enough away from an outing  so I didn't embarrass myself.
It was rather hilarious for a while though. My dd has always been ummm...gifted in that area (we are red necks around here) and so everything was always blamed on her. But she was 5 so old enough to tattle on me. :o

If it's just a matter of waiting for a period of adjustment, I can deal with that. How long did it take you to "adjust"?
Where can I read more on food combining? This idea is totally foreign to me. I'd hate to give up my yummy green smoothies, which has both fruits and veggies in it.
Thanks everyone for responding. I'm sure glad I'm not the only one tooting up a storm

Papaya enzymes (health food stores carry them) really helped me back when I was tooting up a storm.
But going 100% raw has been the trigger!
