View Full Version : Young coconut meat

Today when I was at Wal-mart, buying groceries today, I got a young coconut. Now I've never had fresh coconut before (I've had dried unsweetened coconut and coconut extract though) but I've never had fresh, so I took my coconut, hacked it open (I saw how to open it on a cooking show once), pour the water into a jar, and started scooping the meat out. I was disappointed at how much meat there was. I expected at least 1 cup (this was a good sized coconut), and I got maybe 1/2 a cup. Are they supposed to have a lot of meat, or is this the normal ammount?

It depends on the coconut. Some of mine have had TONS of meat while others don't wield as much!

some do some don't. It's like a surprise everytime you open one. I am always shaking them beacause I want the ones with the most milk, hehe :D

Thanks for the replies, i must've gotten a bad one then, because i got barely any meat, barley any water and it tastes nasty (The water tastes good, but I don't like the meat, expecially the texture)
I know never to buy one of those again lol
