Supposedly Aloe has been known to help immune system deficiencies, among other things, when used internally. My white blood cell count is low. Any way, my step dad recently found a large aloe plant. I have heard there are different varieties, some being poisonous. If I post a picture of the plant, will you help me figure out if this one is safe? Also, has any one used aloe internally? what were your results and how did you consume it?
thanks!!

You can build you white blood cell count by eating foods high in zinc. Some that come to mind are:
Shitake mushrooms
garlic
pumpkin
squash seeds
spinach
carrots
melons
oranges
don't consume high volumes of fat especially oil. I'm no doctor though. Just what I remember from my various research.

I just remembered Ann Wigmore's Energy Soup has been said to build white blood cells.

Excellent for you. For a live plant just start with about a 2" thick slice, not just the skinny tip. Peel off the dark green skin till you have a slimy slippery chunk. Add it to a smoothie so you won't notice it. If you feel good...fine...if you get the 'poops'...try a smaller piece. But you will work your way up to a whole leaf in no time. The skin and yellow goo can be hard on your hands, just peel quick, or use gloves if you're sensitive! xoxo :)

Lay-Lay, thanks for the suggestions. I lovvvve spinach very much, so I have a lot of spinach. I also LOVE oranges and melons are good too. Funny, spinach and oranges are two things I have craved all the time since going raw. Too bad I can't find any oranges lately...and not much spinach either.
Queen Shelley,
Sounds great, I have struggled with constipation all my life...so maybe this will help :). I am just afraid that it is not the right kind of aloe plant or something...
oh and there are two little baby aloe plants growing right next to it in the pot!! :D I hope it is the right kind..if so then I think he found it for a reason ;)

Lunar,
There are many varieties (over 200) of the ALOE plant, but if you have the Aloe barbadensis (ALOE VERA) it's the right one. :)

Where did you get the plant from? If you post a pic, I'll try and help you figure it out. :)

Well if you are that not sure, you can take it to your Nursery. I am sure they will lead you in the right direction. You can ask the old Lady down the street, I am sure she knows.
If it has a thin green skin and slimey, I think you have the right one. Hope I was of some help to you..................

I LOVE aloe and have used it several times since on this raw challenge. My family has a very large aloe plant in our yard. I add it to the blender along with sweet fruits to help mask the aloe's bitter taste. Usually, I refer to this as my 'KeepItMoving' smoothie. LOL! I only make it when I haven't had a bowel movement for a few days (which is typical, because I have IBS). It works like a charm.

Here are a few pictures. The first are the HUGE mother plant and the last is one of the little babies that were around her.

That is the right plant.
You will be surprised at how many babies it has very quickly.
I have ocasionally added it to my smoothie but I seem to forget more often than not.
I add about a half inch skin included but I was just chancing this as I did not know the correct amount.
I have not had any weird results on the days that I have used it but I have not done it regularly enough to say that I have had any good results either.
