If your talking about a young coconut I just make an round opening in the top of the coconut then use a spoon to scoop out the meat, just run the spoon around the inside and clean it all off. The older coconuts.. hmm.. no idea. I think I would pry it off of the sides with a butter knife if I remember correctly... been a while though.

That is a good idea!
However, I am referring to the older coconuts
Thanks, anyway!

I haven't figured that out either Green Life because before raw, I read on the 'net that after cracking it open, you put it into an oven on about 200 degrees for like 5 minutes or something like that and it would just kinda seperate from the shell and I tried it and it worked. But it probably wouldn't be considered raw if we did it that way now. The last time I bought a mature coconut since raw, I think I just kinda took a butter knife and pryed it away as best I could but it takes SO much work...I just get the shredded stuff from the co-op

I use a sharp in knife and put the tip between the shell and the meat. Then I take a meat grinder (metal, a small hammer would work to) and beat the tip softly until the meat breaks away from the shell. I can get all the meat out now in under a minute. Practice makes perfect baby!
I crack them open by using the same tools and notching a hole in one of the dark spots on top. Once I get a hole. I drain my juices and drink and then I take the coconut and slam it on the concrete and it cracks open.
