I made a snack mix of goji berries, shredded coconut and dried yacon root and had it at work yesterday morning.
By the afternoon I had severe stomach pains and by 6 pm I could barely move!! I was in a meeting with my Managing Director and basically I worked out that I had really bad wind!!!!
It got so bad that she actually went down the road and bought some pills from the pharmacy for me - definitely beyond the call of duty as far as an employer is concerned!!!
The pain eventually went but does anyone have any ideas what caused it? I think it would have been the goji berries or the yacon root but I didn't have large quantities of either.
Thanks.

I have a history of bad wind which I have only gotton over recently so as a person that is prone to it and a person that eats gogi berries every day I suggest that they are not the cause.
Perhaps it was the combining.

Have you eaten the goji and the yacon before? On their own or together?
What did you drink? Did you spend a long time in a sitting position, maybe sort of cramped?

Hi,
I can almost for sure it was the yacon, myself and other raw foodist I know have had the same reaction.
Hope you feel better now!!

I know everyone feels differently about the food combining issue, but I am guessing that it is related. I don't believe that every thing should be combined and try my best to keep that in mind. Some things are so different (like acid vs. sweet foods) that they ferment in the stomach and cause discomfort or intense gas. That's my humble opinion.
I would've said the goji berries...I had the same reaction so I don't eat them anymore.
Couldve also been a food combining issue. When I ate my gojis, I ate them then a while after I had some mushrooms.
They aren't that good in my opinion anyway. :p

I think I'll have to reintroduce these things separately and see if one of them is the culprit. Shame, as the snack mix was really good!
I'd not had the dried yacon root before in any great quantity, same for the goji's.
Maca powder also had the same unfortunate effect on me!!

It could be the goji berries I've been eating them lately and have been having the worst gas imaginable "stomach farts" so embarassing.
Quick question: Can goji berries be combined with a regular garden salad? This could be the cause of my stomach farts.
