I don't know if I am doing something wrong...I haven't even been eating the really dense foods...and I'm gaining! It's impossible, isn't it? I'm getting a litle discouraged and some enlightened advice would help me out a lot.... :(

What foods have you been eating? How much water are you drinking?

Same question as biff. And it might be bloating or salt weight since it is the summer. I get very bloated in the summer when I go out in the heat and I know it's hot up there right now, my dad works in NYC.

Try not eating salt, spices, condiments or dehydrated food for 1-2 days and then weigh yourself in the morning. It is probably your body just retaining fluid from something like that.

I am having the same issues and I am doing mostly fruit and then a salad for dinner, no salt condiments ect. Any other thoughts would greatly be appreciated. Thank You

Howdy,

It could be any of the things above or it could be that your body is going through a healing process right now using its energy to heal something. Many times people will not lose weight at the start, but later they will just start to melt. You will when your body is ready. Embrace the changes you are experiencing. I am cheering for you! I know you will be successful

Thank you so much for the feedback! I think maybe it's the celtic sea salt in the green soup or maybe the avocados...I thought I was losing at first (even eating some avocados)...maybe it is just salt....I will cut it out for a couple of days and see what happens! I am drinking PLENTY of water that's for sure! I have at least 1 gallon total a day (partially b/c of the exercise) :) You guys rock for helping me! I don't feel so alone now! :D

I did not lose weight for one solid year ! I went raw one year ago and weighed 129...went up to 132....and stayed there for a solid year. I stayed off the scales for the last three months as I was discouraged that I could not lose 4 measley pds !! I weighed in on my one year anniversary and found I am down to my almost perfect weight (OK what I deem as perfect others say is too thin) of 125..2 pds to go.

So hang in there.

I find when you first I first went raw you I wanted to eat things like nuts and fudge balls and dehydrtaed foods, as time goes I want to eat more fruit & veggies. I think that is why after a year I began to drop !

Yep, salt might be the culprit. I was advised at a singing seminar that everyone needs 3/4 to one and a half gallons of water daily. So you are getting plenty!!

Your body adjusts to changes in salt levels in about 72 hours. So if you were to increase salt and keep it at same level after a few days the body would adjust to that level and release the extra fliud. Same thing happens when you reduce salt. You initially lose water (appears to be weight loss it is not it is the change in sodium in the body i.e. weight loss when you go on a new diet is usually water esp. on Adkins and Zone type diets) if you then stay at that new lower salt level your body will naturally start holding its natural level of fluids. So changing sodium levels trips the scales up and down initially and freaks us out that we "gained" or we "lost". RP just had a good post about eating sodium and seeming to gain.

Thanks for all your replys you are all so great. For me I was mainly doing just veggies to begin with and went down to 100lbs (my body just doesn't handle the fats and dehydrated foods at all plus cnadida issues so I was keeping it simple). Anyway on SAD I weighed 115lbs-125lbs ok thats fine no problems there either I suppose becasue that was then back in NOV 05, fast forward to now after mainly fruit and a big salad at night and I have gained 30lbs. i went from 100lbs in April to 130 now . Any ideas? Thanks
Blessings karen

I was definitely getting discouraged...but I think you guys are right-I will stay off salt for a while. I haven't been eating all the dense dehydrated raw foods(not even dates, nuts, or bananas) b/c when I went raw a few months ago for the first time I ended up gaining b/c of it....so all I have been eating is water rich veggies/fruits...and the first few days I had some agave w/raw cocoa- but I even eliminated that. Now that I think about it, the high salt content in olives may be playing a role in fluid retention as well. I was starting to feel/look better a couple of days ago-I was sticking to a little fruit, salads, homemade guacamole(with very little salt) and homemade salsa...then I probably had too many olives/salt yesterday or the day before...We'll see what happens in a couple of days....Thanks again! :D

Karenbee:

That sounds crazy! How much fruit do you consume in a day? I was told (at least for my body type and what I've put it through) to stay away rfom too much fruit (except water rich-like grapefruit, cherries, and watermelon) and to stay away from nuts/seeds and all the dehydrated sweet snacks....It was also suggested recently that I add protein source 2-3 times a week(raw goat cheese/ salmon)...but I don't think I can do the fish anymore-I have absolutely no appetiite for it. I find this very interesting...and I don't want the same thing to happen to me! 30 pounds is a lot to gain on a raw diet! :)

Hi rawnyckat I know it is very crazy I mainly eat variety of melons cherries bananas pineapple variety of berries and some raisans and then my salad at night and alot of my fruit I make into smoothies. Maybe I am eating to much fruit but I have gone to fitday to work it out my food intake rations for the day and some days I have not eaten that many calories even though I have been eating what to me seems like alot of fruits and veg. Maybe my body just can't handle all of that food So who knows but yes 30lbs is alot. Thanks for the reply.

however, there are many ways to eat raw. Some people, including me, eat low glycemic. I enjoy a high green- and yes, high fat diet. I eat lots of green drinks, green smoothies with a little fruit and fat mixed in, dehydrated veggies-taste just like cooked, and seed and nut-based dips. Though others on the board may not agree with me. It is true that my body is sugar-sensitive. Be your own guru. Please learn to trust your body. If you are gaining weight or going through negative reactions, pls listen. If your body is trying to get your attention, listen. Take time before you eat and actually ask your body what it needs and what will taste good. It may be high-green, high-fruit, high-fat or whatever. Also watch what happens after you eat, your body will let you know. As you tune into your body, it will lead you to the greatest health. Please do not listen to what anybody says, just follow your body. It can be trusted.

How do you know if your body is sugar sensative?

i gained a pound from yesterday, but thats cuz i binged out on dates/some nuts and nut butter/ cacao and coconut, hey at least it wasn't cooked, but i think high fruit isn't for everyone, i think i feel more spaced out i prefer moderate fat, fruit and greens, check out david wolfes sunfood success system, id say its a little less extreme than dr graham, who by the way his skin looks a little dry

Do you think your healthy weight might be close to 130? How tall are you? Maybe your body likes that weight?

08-08-2006, 07:26 PM
hey karenbeel, im about the same height im about 5'8 im 170 now going down though :D but wow 130 would make me look anorexic, hmm guess im "big boned" or i just carry a lot of muscle, i dont even look 170 now- you can see my journal but 130 would be great

rawnykat- yeah he's too obbsessive about the fat im sorry but david wolfe, alissa, cousen and jinjee and her family and even fred pauten. agree on a higher fat content WHAT THE HELL HAPPEN TO MODERATION PEOPLE!! sorry i just like david wolfe says to find balance fruits need to be balanced by greens as do fats...

oo yea and green smoothies rock i like banana-kale-blueberry or papaya-orange-romaine etc just whatever oo and bananas and celery actually taste good together maybe with some coconut water..

jiujitsugirl, I am so glad to hear that you are losing weight that's fantastic, keep up the good work you'll get to your goal. Thanks for your reply, it's funny how something that would be great for one is not for another in this case our weight of course. I'm sure I will figure it out :D.

How do you know if your body is sugar sensative?

here is a Sugar Sensitivity Test http://healthyplace.com/Communities/Dieting/Site/sugar_sensitivity_test.htm
Some of the questions are about SAD foods, but you can more or less determine if you are or are not.

thanks jiujitsu! I will try the kale-blueberry recipe tomorrow (yum!) :) I actually think my scale is possessed...I look much better and feel much better today-lighter!...but the scale hasn't budged...so I'm not going to touch the scale for a while. I already know it's evil...but sometimes your just curious to see if there is numerical evidence of progress! A few years ago I was at 250 lbs.(on my 5'3 frame!!!!) ...after much hard work, but plenty of yo-yo dieting I got down to 135...then have been going up and down 15 pounds the last couple of years. I went on a fast and got back down to 135 4 weeks ago, but as soon as I put a veggie in my mouth (2 wks ago 100% raw)blimped back up....now the scale says I am at 145...but I look a little lighter than that....we'll see what happens....
