Ok I seem to go from round of doctor to the next round every year. Usually the fall or spring I go to about 5 new doctors trying to figure this out.

The one I went to last week strongly thinks I have Short Gut Syndrome. I won't go into all the details unles you'd like to know, but here's some information:
http://www.childrenshospital.org/clinicalservices/Site1993/mainpageS1993P4.html

It makes sense to me, but the "treatment" worries me. I'm against suppliments, but if I'm not absorbing nutrients what else can I do? I don't want thtem intravenously, shots, through a tube, or medication. That pretty much gets rid of all their options doesn't it? My mom thinks that juicing and blending my food instead of eating it whole will help with the absorption problem. My body just needs a break since this thing is getting worse and FAST. I'm just so tired of this. Raw was helping and gave my body a break from digesting cooked and animal proteins, but now I guess it's used to the raw so it's going down hill again....help?

I would suggest before takeing any docotrs treatment to take a strong probiotic. I take Primal Defense from Jordan Ruban (who used to have Crohns Disease). If you search the posts, others have mentioned ones that look good as well. You want to make sure you take one where all the bacteria are grown together. Primal Defense is good because they are all grown together and they are grown on a food base. Having heathy intestinal flora equals heathy intestines, and returning the flora will return health to your intestines and your body. They are the things that allow your body to absord the nutrients. They brake down the food, produce lots of enzymes, and help your immune system (about 70 % of your immune response is from your gut).

So I would suggest starting that- and don't drink any chlorinated water, or anything else that will kill the little beasties! They will heal you. We normaly get them from the soil, but our soil is defficient in them for many reasons I'm sure your familiar with, plus, everything is ultra sterile and clean nowadays. Try this before anything else, as anything else will probably not help your intestines heal.

You can try reading Jordan Rubans book, too, its called 'Patient, Heal Thyself' He is all for a diet with milk and meat, but he talkes about the essentials of raw, and the probiotics are raw friendly. Try it!!!!!

Thanks. I'm a little leery of any probiotics or any pills. What is in them? You said it's food based, would it have wheat, corn, sory, or anything of that sort in them? I just don't like pills since they're not natural or raw...Maybe I'm just being stubborn. Maybe it's because my mom had me take about 10+ pills every morning when I was younger...no more pills lol.

Hi there,

If you have anything digestive related going on I would recommend that you get in touch with Dave Klein. He is definitely the raw expert on digestive issues. He wrote a book on healing digestive issues. His website is www.livingnutrition.com.

All the best,

Audrey

Some of the best things for absorption issues:

take a broad spectrum, vegetarian digestive enzyme with each meal, every meal.

Bee pollen (if you aren't allergic to bees) and spirulina are very easy to absorb and LOADED with nutrients. You can find bee pollen that has been harvested without harming bees. Y.S. brand is lovely and tastes delicious.

Also, I agree with the probiotics suggestion and primal defense is one of the best. It uses homeostatic soil organisims, which are ancient probiotics that live in the dirt. Google Primal Defense and try some research to see if it fits the parameters you want to adhere to about soy and raw, etc.

Also, juicing is a great way to get nutrients as juicing breaks open cell walls and releases their nutrients. Emphasize veggie juices as they are building versus overly cleansing like fruit juices--it will help you build strength.

Also, chew chew chew your food as digestion begins in the mouth and you can liberate a lot of nutrients by chewing well, giving yoru gut a break.

Best wishes to you!

tallsea - i can't have bee pollen since I'm a little allergic to bees, and at this point would rather not risk it since each reaction is getting worse (more allergic to wasps though...) As for the grasses I see it has; I'm allergic to wheat and sensative to all other grains so...not sure how that will work out. I found they say it's "vegetarian" but that doesn't mean vegan...I'll have to email them.

Hi,

I feel quite optimistic about you being able to maximize your health with the raw. I agree with your feelings about the pills and also that the cooked is less than optimal solution for your. I read about those who went raw after they had part of their stomach removed (by-pass surgery if I remember well) and still do well, so I see no reason that you could not do well either. I think that your instincts are right on track. I think also that talking to someone like Dave would help a lot.

Do not worry, you WILL beat this, and it will happen effortlessly with the help of raw!

Sincerely,
Gosia
