View Full Version : Discouraged!

For the past two weeks I've been eating 75% raw and probably 90% organic. Yesterday I managed to eat 90% raw and organic with cheating in the middle of the night. Now even the 75% raw was a DRASTIC change from my previosu eating habits. I was a comfort food junkie...anything pasta, breads, cheese, ice cream, etc. I loved it and ate it frequently!
I'm discouraged because, although I do feel a change physically and mentally, I haven't lost any weight these past two weeks! None at all! Am I eating too much nuts? Oils? How do I know? I always thought as long as I was eating raw, I could eat pretty much whatever I wanted in whatever quantities. I guess that wouldn't make sense but I really wanted this diet/lifestyle to work for me. Nothing else has and I am so sick of being tired all the time, relying on coffee and being overweight! I could really use suggestions, support. Has anybody else gone raw and NOT lost weight? Am I being impatient?
Please help.
Also, how does one make this diet affordable? I've spent close to $500 in the past two weeks alone on a food processor and various raw/organic foods. I can't afford that?! Does it get better? :( :(

hey hun,
I here your discouragement. I went through this about 3 years ago. First I would like to say there is a big difference between 90% raw and 100% raw. Sometimes it may take sometime for you to get to the point of 100% raw. Some people can jump right to it cold turkey, but I took a long time. When I was not 100% I found that I actually gained weight, although this is not true for everyone. 2 weeks is not long at all. When you go raw your body will start to heal from the toxic state it was in and you weight may fluctuate up or down for a few months. Once healing has started taking place you may have boughts of losses or gains. But eventually sticking to raw will pay off. I have lost over 35 pounds now. I eat whatever I want as long as it is raw.
Do you have Alissa's book? If you don't you must get it. Keeping it simple is the best possible way.
Equipment is nice and I have most of it, but it took me 3 years to get all the pieces I wanted. Remember, what do you need to eat a apple, banana, avocado, cherries, or watermelon. Nothing and at the most a knife. All the other stuff is just luxuries.
So if you have that stuff great, but if you don't put it on you wish list and make it available to family and friends. Maybe on those special occasions they will get you something. Or maybe say for my doing to 30 day 100% challenge I am going to treat myself with a spiralizer. My mom bought me a early anniversary present this year, a vita mixer, I have wanted one for 3 years and now I got one, yeah. But I lived without it for 3 years.
I will be cheering you on.

Hi, and CONGRATULATIONS, on taking control of your life and eating.
I have been there, I was raw for two months, with NO weight loss, then one day, it melted off me, 15 pounds in one weekend,
BOY, was I surprised!!!
I've lost 65 pounds so far, no exercise at all and eating whatever I choose, I do eat 100% raw, that seems to really help me.
But I do know that many people lose on 70% or 80%, so the most important thing is to hang in there.
My food costs are almost nothing, yes, there is cost for some appliances, although you certainly don't need them, they are nice to have.
This is what I usually eat in a day,
Breakfast:
tea (sun tea, warmed in the dehydrator) I pick the herbs myself, either camomile, or mint, I have some ginseng that I love that was a gift
fruit, 1 to 2 cups
snack:
fruit 1 to 2 cups
lunch:
fruit 1 to 4 cups
(I often just walk outside and pick whatever is on the trees or bushes, we have raspberries, blackberries strawberries right now)
snack:
almond milkshake
medjool dates (3)
dinner:
usually a gourmet recipe, last night I had a burger with onion bread, and tomato, onion, pickles, lettuce, mayo and mustard, (we grow our own mustard), I make mayo out of almond milk and oil and spices, the burger was made from Alissa's meatloaf recipe, made into burger patties and dehydrated, the Onion bread is onion, flax meal, sunflower seeds, and maybe some salt, i don't remember, very easy, I make this stuff up and freeze in single servings.
snack:
ice cream (walnuts, dates, cacao)
brownies (walnuts, dates, cacao)
1 cup nuts
this is my typical day's food, you can see I eat alot of food, maybe 4 to 8 peaches, plums, bananas, etc, plus nuts and recipes, and I'm losing like crazy, haven't been this size in about 10 years, or so.
But, I keep in there, I was very discouraged when I was doing so well and not losing, but it did finally drop off.
So, for what purpose does this happen?
Well, I KNOW that my body is infinitely inteligent, and it's number one mission is to keep me healthy, so it was doing what ever it needed to keep me healthy, probably counteracting all that cooked toxic stuff I had been eating, and I've been a vegetarian for onver 10 years, so I just let it do what it needed to do, and it healed where it needed to heal, and that was that.
Now, I did get discouraged, I did think about NOT staying raw, but why?
I mean, I'm not doing this to lose weight, I'm doing this for my health, so I was keeping on keeping on, and I'm happy for it.
I also feel great,
so when you say you feel better mentally and physically, make that the reason you stay raw.
Also, the cost will go down as you no longer need to purchase more appliances. But it's like anything else, if you were starting any type of new food plan, you'd need to buy some things to do it the easy way.
But, basically now, I don't even use knives, I just grab and eat, about once a week, I make a few things, and use my dehydrator and food processor, I do use my Vita Mix to make nut milk shakes, but that is getting less and less.
I think eating everything you can that is raw in the beginning to get over the cravings and to get detoxed is the number one thing to do,
Then just allow your body to heal in it's most perfect way.

Ok my advice :D
Put away the scale. Hide it. Give it to a friend to hold onto. Those d*** machines only hang over your head and make you feel like you're not doing what you should. BUT!!!!!!!!!..........
Eat for your body and for your mind. Love how you feel. Love the changes you're going through!! YOU ARE DOING WHAT YOU NEED TO!!!!!!
Do you exercise at all? If so, what do you do? If not, start walking, grab a friend and just go! :D
I weigh myself maybe once a week, IF that. I'm trying to get it down to once a month. So I'll join you on the hide-the-scale quest. :D
All the best.

Hi Kashendel,
It is not unusal to not lose weight at first. It could be that you're eating too much oils and nuts; it could also be that your body is busy repairing parts of your body that needs more attention (hope that makes sense . . . I read a great article on this once).
Nora Lenz ate 5 months straight 100% raw and didn't lose one pound, but then it just started to melt off. The important thing is that your body is healthier by eating raw and in time the weight will come off. You may have to make some adjustments in what you're eating, but if you're all raw, at least you know your body is loving it.
Here's Nora Lenz's: http://www.rawschool.com/story.htm & http://www.shazzie.com/raw/transformation/nora.shtml
Just hang in there and know you're on the right road. Weight is a symptom, just like acne, hair falling out, headaches, IBS, etc. Not all symptoms will disappear or appear to be disappearing at the same time or the same rate.

You buy what you can afford. Keep it simple. Put objects on your gift list. Don't let RAW Stress you. RAW keeps the Stress away.
So when someone asks you what you want for your birthday tell them and maybe a few can chip in and get it.
I always want money........I am tooooo picky........
