I have lately been having a thick mat of junk on my tongue. The color varies from dingy green to muddy purple, depending on whether I last ate avocados, onions, or aƧaĆ*. My tongue also has longitudinal stripes, which I think are colored by the aƧaĆ*. Is this detox or a sickness?

Hmm, never heard of that. I know lately my tongue is like white-ish with patches, but I've had this for years.

A coating on the tongue can often be caused by too much yeast, or not enough beneficial bacteria - this would mean the coating would probably be white, but the foods you eat colour it. However, if its naturally yellow before you eat anything, it could mean lack of beneficial bacteria, or that you are generally run down. If the coating is on the back of the tongue then your colon isn't working as well as it should be.
About the splits, its a sign of malabsorbtion, especially of B vitamins.
Hope this helps! I got it from Gillian McKeiths book.

I used to have a slight coating and used a tongue scraper but a few months ago I gave up using it because there was nothing there.
Now it is back, a little bit. I have not changed anything so assumed that it was a slight detox.

I read somewhere that the location of the places on your tounge indicate where the problem is in your body. I will have to look that up but it is a direct indication of condition of the bowels.

Okay, here's my tongue after a serious scraping. My last meal was peaches, strawberries, olives, and frozen maracujĆ” pulp; I ate the last aƧaĆ* this morning.

I would say it is candida. I used to have it. Raw will clear it up with time. I could always be wrong though, hehe :D

I've seen this, I believe it is as others have said, not enough good bacteria, I would take probiotics, it might help.

I have had candida so that is a likely explanation. Should I take garlic, pau d'arco, or coconut oil?

I just scratched off the last of it. My tongue surface was shedding, just like skin. It's now all pink again :)

i agree w rp, take probiotics. auyrveda and chinese med use tongue diagnosis - and since your coating is in the back that shows that your large intestine is mucky :)
probiotics will help, there are some past threads here that discuss different brands. colonics always clear up my tongue right away, if you feel like that.
tongue scraping also good - i do it every morning. use the edge of a spoon if you don't have a scraper. the scrapers are about $6 at health stores.
good luck! let us know about your tongues progress.\
