This is very new to me - I was surfing the internet looking for information on juice fasting and came upon this forum. I am 43 years old (most people guess me to be much younger). I have battled my weight since my first child when I was 21. I am 5'9" tall and have weighed as little as 125 and as heavy as 280 -- I'm not at my heaviest anymore but have a LONG way to go and am concerned about health as well and have heard good things about juice fasting. I'm hoping this forum will assist.. I am a single mother of four (ages 22, 19, 14 and 5).

Welcome Singstoo! Glad you are here! A single mom of 4???? Yikes! I have 3 and I have a partner... it is insane with two of us, I couldn't imagine doing it alone... you are an inspiration already! This raw thing should be a piece of cake! Just kidding... :)

I'm pretty new here too- so I won't comment on juice fasting. I don't have a whole lot of expierence, but there are lots of others I know will be more than happy to fill you in on that... you can also do a 'search' way at the top of the page (under the banana) and just put in 'juice fast' or 'juice fasting' and the threads that we have already had on that subject should pop up- it would be good reading until people can respond directly to you and your questions...

Hope that helps a bit :D

Welcome, Singstoo.

I'm like Melissa in that I haven't done any juice fasting. I have no plans to do any. You might be interested in getting Alissa's book and reading the testimonials. Weight just seems to fall off people when they start eating raw, and there are the stories to prove it in there. I am also 5'10", but I'm not eating raw to lose weight; I'm doing it to become truly healthy.

I'm glad you found this forum. You're going to enjoy exploring it, and the people are very friendly and supportive.

HI!! I am also from st louis but I just moved to san diego...just thought i'd give you some ideas to help you out. River City Nutrition in kirkwood has a few raw items like govinda bar (sooo good). Wild Oats in Ladue has raw items including Lara bars and an AWESOME salad bar....I used to go there everyday!!! I've yet to find a salad bar out here that could beat it! I also know that there is a raw group that gets together and has potlucks every month, I can't remember the name but if you ask one of the ladies at river city nutrition they are really nice and helpful!!! good luck.

Hi Singstoo! Welcome to the raw food journey and this forum. Lots of great folks and information here.

I'm in St. Louis too. Another place to shop for organic produce is Whole Foods on Brentwood ... good salad bar there as well. There is a raw food group that meets once a month for a potluck. The location may be changing so right now I'm not sure just where the next month meeting will be. Send me a note and I'll let you know! (levamssg@yahoo.com)

Thanks for the information on Saint Louis Area "Raw" food places to go -- I plan on shopping tomorrow morning so that is good information for me. I made my list today. I'm planning to start raw and then sometime during the 30 day challenge I want to do 7 days of juice fasting. We will see. Anyway - thanks for all the information and the welcomes! :D

Welcome! I am new as well, and so far I feel it is a great support group. This is a journey and believe we can all help each other. Something to work towards. Take care, gradual stages and all in moderation. Skills to be built in each special phase. I have to remind myself often, I tend to be all or none. You only fail when you stop trying.
