However, that was before I noticed this section of the forum:
My question was to those who eat nothing but raw food... (fruit & veg)
1) How long were you raw for? Were you eating ONLY raw food for that entire period? (be honest please)
2) Do you eat organic food while raw?
3) Do you find enough energy for exercise?
4) How many meals a day do you eat?

---
Reason why I ask is, when I try to eat only raw food, I get cravings for bread/grains, and I often find myself less energy than usual for serious exercise.

Do you think that effect is only for a small period, and then a person gets used to it, that is; are human beings able to operate to their full energy potentual on fruit and vegetables alone? or do we need something else that is in bread? wheat/grain, etc...

K Thanks a lot.

I often find that people that work out tend to promote meat/protein/fish consumption... Would somebody mind deterriorating this myth?
Is raw eating make you a skinny half-dead person and a meat eater fully energized vibrant person or the opposite? Is it possible to be upbeat while on raw food? I need your input people!

It's completely opposite. I know there are a few body builders on here completely raw, mostly fruit only. The meat/protein thing is a myth, but unfortunately I don't have a website or book to give you. Oh, The China Study is one. I'm sure others will give you more information. The cravings that you get is your body detoxing from those substances. Don't give in or it'll just persist each time you try to go raw again. Being tired is also a VERY common detox symptom. Just let your body do what it needs to do and try not to push it.

I've been off and on raw for wow, almost 3 years (I'm 19). At the moment I'm a little past month 5 100% raw without any slips. I've been having a lot of sensativities so I'm just starting to do all organic...so expensive though. I do feel better on organic and there IS a difference in taste once you've detoxed and had only organic...your taste buds change and non-organic tastes, well, it has no taste and you begin to look at the non-organic salad bars and lose your appetite lol.

I hear you sister!

Yeah, thanks for the encouragement! and congrats on that 5 month completely raw thing! very impressive.

And yeah, I could totally imagine that organic tastes more wholesome. If I look back at my younger days when I was a kid (I'm 18 now) I was very senesitive to taste. My parents would eat things I just couldn't. And they'd say they didn't see a difference in taste. Anyways, yeah, wish I could get back to that state of purity again.

Why does it have to be one way or the other? Everyone is not the same you know. I was a skinny, scrawny, meat eating kid. Nothing I could do could make me gain weight. Of course I also ate plenty of vegetables, many of them raw. Became a vegetarian at age 13. I did eat some dairy and eggs up until the age of 46 when I learned I was allergic to them. That's when I decided I wanted to go vegan. Wanted, but didn't quite make it. That being said, most of my meals are vegan. But for some reason I seem to keep getting anemia if I do not eat meat on occasion. I'm 47 now.

I currently have a lot of health issues. Used to be a dancer and also a dance teacher. Worked in the pro shop at a golf course, among other things. I've always been very active. Started working out with weights in my 30's because I started putting on weight and the dance, calesthenics and yoga just weren't enough any more.

I am still working out with weights. Still do yoga and dance when I can. But mostly it's the weights. I have more muscle on my body than I ever have. Yes, I've read the muscle magazines. I've seen how some people eat a lot of fish, chicken, eggs, whey protein, etc. Lived with a body builder who ate a dozen eggs a day. And apparently it works for them. It does not work for me! I tried that high protein route briefly. Gave me no energy whatever and all that protein sat in stomach like a lead weight. I had headaches and felt weak.

I do not think there is one diet that will work for all of us. And even here in the raw community there is no one diet we all follow. I tend to eat more vegetables than anything else. This is what I like and this is what makes me feel good.

Carbohydrates are what give us energy. Fruits and vegetables are carbs. So are other things like grains and sugar. But some of these things are highly processed and not necessarily the best things for us to eat. I remember back in the 70's, carb loading was the big thing to do. Runners ate pasta, wrestlers ate oranges, everybody ate granola and dried fruit.

I think the big protein push began again in the 80's. I collect books on fitness, diet, nutrition, cooking, etc. I have books dating back to the 1920's. Nothing is really new in terms of diet. The protein push was also popular back in the 1940's. I've seen so many food fads come and go.

I know what I need to eat to make me feel good. And it's not meat, fish or lots of protein. I do need a little protein and fat to make me feel full. But not a lot. That's me. My husband could not eat like I do and enjoy it. He's a real meat person. He claims he feels better when he eats mostly meat. A friend of mine is the same. Neither one of them likes fruit or vegetables either. I truly believe we're all different in terms of diet.

1. I have been raw for about 13 months and during that time I have eaten cooked about 6 times.
2. I eat mostly organic but there are exceptions such as papaya and blueberries (can not get organic) and sometimes mango.
3. I have never been short of energy and have started with a personal trainer about 3 months ago who drives me hard.
4. I eat about 5 times a day.

I understand your problem regarding breads as in the beginning I had the same problem with wanting bread but got over it when I started making crackers. Nowadays I only make crackers if I have too much food and want to use it up but I can do without them just fine.

I have to admit that if I do not have 2 bananas before an exercise session I have difficulty in getting through it and get light headed but 2 bananas 15 minutes beforehand and I can take anything he throws at me.
log on to www.rawfamily.com and check out what Storm does. He only eats fruit and veg and is very fit and exercises a lot.

1) How long were you raw for? Were you eating ONLY raw food for that entire period? (be honest please) Since 4/24/06 and yes
2) Do you eat organic food while raw? yes, but not 100%, just things that I can afford, like lettuce and berries, oil, etc.
3) Do you find enough energy for exercise? oh yeah, I have much more energy now. Eating raw has actually given me the energy to exercise. Now I am working out and cycling 5 or 6 days a week.
4) How many meals a day do you eat? umm, I dunno, I didn't know I should count them, LOL!

Do you think that effect is only for a small period, and then a person gets used to it, that is; are human beings able to operate to their full energy potentual on fruit and vegetables alone? or do we need something else that is in bread? There has been long time raw foodist that are full of energy.
