View Full Version : Hot Tea?

I was under the impression that hot tea is not a part of a raw diet. Unless I pick the leaves myself (mint, for example) or are sure that the tea (organic, of course) is not processed with heat. Even then ... I thought that I must brew it with water not hotter than 114 degrees or so. If that can be called brewing ... I dunno.

So, I've just avoided it like I've avoided coffee.

But now, I notice that a lot of people here have mentioned drinking hot tea, so I'm thinkin I must be mistaken.

Can someone talk about this for me?

Thanks! :)

i think drinking tea is ok...as long as it's herbal stuff....i'm not sure though...i've been feeling the same about it...i'm not sure if i should...but i mean it's just herbs...i don't think it's detrimental to your body...but it might just not do anything good for you either..hmmmmmm

Traditional hot tea is not raw. However, you can make sun tea and just drink it warm or iced. There are some raw people that I know, that choose to drink hot tea during the cold months.

However, I don't know how the store bought tea is prepared and dried. It may be your best bet to buy the fresh leaves yourself and make it into "sun tea" or "traditional boiling water tea".

You are right raw truth, but I choose to drink hot herbal tea with raw honey or agave nectar because I like it and it is soothing to me.

Thanks, ladies. You've confirmed what I thought.

Hmmmm, Sweetlips, coffee is soothing to me ... hahahahaha.

Yeah, lately I can't get coffee and chocolate out of my mind.I suppose if a hot cup of tea helps with those cravings, I choose the tea!

Rawtruth- did you read Amethyst post on the cacao nibs? I just ordered 3 bags from Naturals first law because my mouth has not stop watering from it! She sold many of us on it- if you love chocolate maybe you should try it?

About tea- I know it is not raw, but I too believe that tea has a lot of good benefits, especially green tea. I may not drink it later on, but for now it is helping me to stay away from wine. It is a matter of choice I guess...

I stopped drinking black tea, but I still start every morning with green tea, just one cup. For me, it's major progress! Eleven days ago, I was drinking black tea like water for the caffeine lift.

Make sure you buy organic tea only ladies~ not only for what is sprayed on non-organic but because of how the workers are treated--it is dreadful!

I too drink herbal teas. Mostly for the warmth they give me, but also the ritual..replacing coffee. To be honest, when I first went raw I was totally off anything warmer than body temp, but I was living in a really warm climate, so I didn't feel the need.

The thing is, herbs can give us so many wonderful medicinal qualities, and I would rather have them in tea form, than rely on tinctures with alcohal. However, should I need a more potent formula, I will take tinctures. I guess it is all in how dogmatic one wants to be. There are some people who are really anti warm water consumption. I for one like herb tea.

Cassy. :)

Count me in the herbal tea-drinking group. I did make one change --I used to drink tea scalding hot and my family joked that I had an asbestos mouth...I could take any amount of heat. After three months raw I find that my mouth is much more sensitive to heat so I let my tea cool off a bit before drinking. I am working on reversing my fibromyalgia and IBS, and I find that a cup of ginger tea in the evenings tremendously helps with my digestion. (I also take enzymes and probiotics.)

My absolute favorite tea in the world is a Celestial Seasonings Wellness Tea called Honey Ginger Peach. It really WORKS for indigestion, gassiness, and cuts my cravings too.

I never liked anything hot enough to burn my mouth. But after I had babies, I started adding half cold water to my coffee (now tea) because I was so afraid of them grabbing it and getting scalded. And, as it turns out, it suited me, so even when I had no toddlers (a few years between baby number three and baby number four), I just continued the habit.
