All the food looks sooo good and amazing!! I wish we had a restaurant like that! Maybe if I am in that area of California, I'll have to check this place out! Yummy!
Right on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im moving to San Francisco in like 3 weeks :D
I'll make sure to eat there often :)
Is it considered psychotic that I am now basing my apartment search around this cafe. Seriously, I plan on living as close to it as possible.
Even more psychotic that I got the directions from my school to the cafe and it is only .5 miles away from the 9th avenue location...Is that the one you went to Jenna?
OooOoo maybe I should see if I can get a job there????
Thanks for showing me this place :)

LOL not at all!! I would be doing the same thing!
The one I go to is the Harrison St. one. I want to go to the 9th ave. one, but we'd have to cross the bridge and pay like $10
have you map-quested the 9th ave. location? you do know that it is just a couple of miles from the Harrison location, right? if you are already in San Francisco to go to Harrison St. then there is no bridge to get into the Upper Sunset from the Mission. at least none that i have ever seen...
i live in the Dubose Triangle and it is an EASY N-line ride to less than a block away from the 9th and Irving location.
greywolf, I think i'll be needing your help when I move. I have no idea how public transportation works in SF. I'm looking for apartments in the inner sunset. Alot of places I've found said they have easy off street parking so I plan on taking my car. Do you think thats a good idea?

public transport in SF is really so easy once you get the hang of it. first place to look would be www.sfmuni.com and check out the maps.
steet parking, eh? in this town every day there are 20,000 cars and 10,000 parking spaces - or at least it seems that way. in the Sunset and Richmond areas you will fair a LOT better than in most areas, but it really just depends on where you end up. we brought a car with us when we moved here, and let it go after about a year of using it about 8 times total. cost us more in insurance and car payments that it was worth.
hosnestly out in the Sunset it is pretty "suburban" - so a car would be pretty useful - but again it all depends on WHERE in the Sunset.
send me a mail if you have questions - i will be happy to help if i can!
Well, I'm starting at UCSF in the fall. So I've been looking in the inner sunset area right now. I guess parking should be the least of my worries at the moment, because I am not finding any ideal living situations right now. SO first I need to find a place to live :o
But thanks for your help!

Hi Boz, i live in the Inner Sunset in SF. Parking's no big deal except right on 9th & Irving, and in the three or four blocks immediately around UCSF. My housemates and I all have cars. but also, public transport is really easy, too, and it goes everywhere. And I love Cafe Gratitude! I get as many of my friends to go there with me as possible. good luck!
hahahah just as you mention that, I was looking at an add for an apartment close to 9th and Irving. I feel like I'm going to be homeless :o

FYI cafe gratitude has a recipe book called I am Grateful. I was released yesterday. I got my copy from Amazon yesterday and it is simply amazing. When I ate there in October I fell in love. I want to go back to sanfran, just to go there again. Try the thai coconut curry soup. It is amazing! To me it was no more pricey than the vegan/veg restaurants I used to frequent in Detroit.

Whenever I make it back to San Francisco... that town has gotten ridicuoisly over priced with rents, but I want to go there SO BAD! That salad looks amazing. I love all the names they give for the dishes.
I am so tired of preparing food. All I do is drink juice.
Also i want to go to Cilantro in San Diego and Juliano's and Terra Bella and Pure.

I love Cafe Gratitude! I recently lived in the Silicon Valley for 4 months on an internship and I went to San Fran every 2 week-ends just to get my Cafe Gratitude fix. :)
I also wanted to mention that Cafe Gratitude has many locations: 2 in San Francisco, 1 in Berkeley, 1 in San Rafael. They are also opening a new location in Los Angeles.
Another thing I absolutely love about Cafe Gratitude is that it's not just about the amazing raw food: the atmosphere, the people, the abundance and the gratitude. It's quite amazing!! :)

For everyone wanting to try Cafe Gratitude in SF, also be sure to check out "Alive"... my favorite raw restaurant! (http://aliveveggie.com) The location is a bit closer to downtown, and it's amazing!

Cafe Gratitude is the best!!!!! I recently went to Leaf in LA and was a little disappointed because I was expecting a CG 's atmosphere. The food was great and very fast service but nothing compares to Cafe Gratitude.

Speak of the devil!!! Is everyone moving to San Francisco???
I just found out today that my husband got accepted to UC Berkeley Law school, so we will be moving to Berkeley in August.
I did some research online to look for the raw food situation in Berkeley. Cafe Gratitude came up. Then I got on raw food talk and the first post I see is about San Francisco and Cafe Gratitude!! Wow, it's meant to be....

This is off topic, so please forgive me, but I do have to say that I am really scared and a little overwhelmed to move to Berkeley. I know it is the right thing, but we live in SLC, Ut right now..... so there is going to be a big difference......
Can anyone give me some comfort and tell me Berkeley is a great place to live???
PS thanks for the great pics Jennabobenna

On a recent trip to Cali, my bf and I ate at one of the CG's in San Fran. Let me put it this way --the check was about 100$. This was just two people!
There was so much cool looking stuff I couldn't decide what to order! I ordered one drinkie with dinner (which my bf kept sneaking sips off of ! ) and we ordered 3 appetizers amongst us two to share. We both ordered an entree and we both orders desserts! And no, we couldn't finish the dessert so we took them to go. I ordered another drinkie to go too. :)
I can't remember everything we had except that I ordered the Cinammon Bun for desert and I couldn't eat it because it was way too nut heavy for me (which is saying alot since I love nuts). I think I remember liking everything else though. :)
on the subject of San Fran, my bf and I are trying to move out to the San Fran area ourselves - hopefully We will be there soon. :)

Wow! $100?
For the two of us, our bill comes out to about $40 (not including tip), but I go there so often, I already know what I want and have tried most of the stuff on the menu---with all the choices, now I can see why your first time would be that high. :)
Since Fuzzypeach is coming to Berkeley, there is a CG out here too.

this is the one thing I am REALLY looking forward to in regards to moving to Berkeley. RAW FOOD!!! We only have 1 raw food restaurant here in SLC, and it's okay, but it would be nice to have a little more variety. And the farmer's markets and fresh produce.... oh I am so excited for good produce!
I will definitely definitely check out this Cafe Gratitude...

Looks stupendous!
The entrees run around $12-13; a smoothie about $7-$8.00; tea/coffee $3-4; appetizers $6-11; desserts around $7.00. That might be more information than you want. The prices are pretty reasonable really. Recently, my sister invited me to a lunchen her office was having for her birthday at Cafe Gratitude in Marin. The bill for about 12-14 people was about $220 including tax. That included several appetizers, drinks etc. Dinner and lunch prices are the same.
This is just to let anyone know they can can get a decent meal for around $10. A lot of the food is really filling too. You think it won't be enough but the food is so nutritionally dense it's completely satisfying.

yeah, pretty steep! But we were only in Cali for a week so I gobbled up everything I could! Ha ha! Once I move there I get to go as much as I want so I can try everything eventually. :)

Ok.
What an experience.
It's more than raw food. It's a lifestyle.
We went for breakfast today. I'll just say this: the cinnamon bun made me buy the cookbook.
The dish I had was to LIVE for. Not to mention the wheatgrass drink.
And then there was the cleansing group of 14 going over notes and taking the supplies for their 5th and last day of the fast (per our server, who had joined them on the fast).
I went back later for dinner. I got the enchilada. Spectacular.
What's really amazing is the vibe of the place. The dishes are named things like "I am bonita." "I am rejuvenated." "I am grateful." "I am loving." etc.
When they serve you, they call out, e.g.: "Rebecca! You are rejuvenated!"
And when DH spilled some almond milk, they CHEERED him. "We celebrate mistakes here. It's a new way of being."
It was fantastic. Can not WAIT to go back tomorrow. =)

Haha, so now I'm not to the only one who goes multiple times in a week!;) Try the different ones - they all have a different vibe. I usually go to 20th and Harrison, but the one on 9th and Irving is my favorite for its garden and sun room.

I still haven't been to the ones in the city yet (though I'm in SF daily now). Its still Berkeley for me though I want to visit all of them including the new one in San Rafael. I work in the Financial District and I am so SICK of looking at Specialties on every other corner. I want a Cafe Gratitude there darn it!

I agree Barose. A raw place opened in an Equinox in San Mateo (I forgot the name???) - I'm hoping they open one at the Equinox here too! I'm not sure where you are, but I eat at Wildflower every single day! I mean every. single. day.
I like the fireplace at the Berkeley location. It's nice to sit on the couch there next to it and eat and relax. Hard to resist putting your feet up and making yourself right at home.

That would be so cool if they put something raw at the Equinox. Right now, its Whole Foods (on 4th) and the Ferry Building on Tuesdays for the farmers market and the Alive! Raw foods...
What/where is Wildflower??
I'm on New Montgomery right now, but we are moving our offices to 300 something California Street so I will still be right in the area.

Ooo Beckla - how nice to be able to walk there. I think I would go broke if I lived that close to cafe gratitude. I live across the city in Russian Hill so I can't go all the time. But there are SO many good veggie places here! :D I still haven't tried them all. Of course a lot of them are chinese which style...which means no can do for a raw foodie.
Hmm. I think I might treat myself to dessert at gratitude tonight. I took a chocolate dessert prep class through them last month and it was fantastic!

Cafe Gratitude has updated their menu again. Yay - things I've never tried. Today I got the new spring rolls and a caprese salad (tomato, "mozarella", basil) on a flat bread. Yum! They also added a tropical salad that looks great. Not sure what else.
