Hey all...
I'm confused about something... I just went to SunOrganicFarm.com to check out there grains. Now some grains say for sprouting, others dont? Im confused? All the grains I buy do they have to say for Sprouting? Im confused? Someone teach me, teach me? LOL.
For example. Kamut says full grain. It doesnt mention sprouting.
Then... Millet it says Sprouting.
Then Wheat Berries, it says High In Gluten but doesnt mention sprouting? Ahh. What are the guidelines for buying Grains? Never have myself. I dunno.

I THINK that as long as the grain is whole & raw, you can get pretty much anything to sprout. I've sprouted raw sunflower seeds, rye, wheat, and lentils from a random grocery store.

So what are the main grains Alissa uses in her recipes?
1.
2.
3.
I wish there was an ingredients list, especially for all the spices etc used in all her recipes, so I can know! Darn it! LOL

I know Alissa uses buckwheat for many recipies. Sprouted buckwheat is actually considered a fruit. She also uses sprouted rye for her bagels. I'd have to leaf through her book to see what other grains/seeds she uses but these are just of the top of my head.

i buy from sunorganics and this is how i understand it:
the whole grains are raw. the reason they say sproutable or for sprouting after some is bc that grain also comes in a form that would not be sproutable (therefore not raw). i buy the kamut, wheatberries, buckwheat groats (not the ones for growing buckwheat lettuce), quinoa, the oats for sprouting and the millet for sprouting. so far everything has been perfect. they also have the best prices i've seen for raw organic almonds!
i think you can order with confidence, so enjoy!
btw, my main grains are the buckwheat for buckwheaties and for those incredible burger buns, oats for great raw porridge on sunday mornings, and quinoa for tabouli.
many blessings,

i order the nonpareil variety. they are lighter in color and good for nut milk as well as pates, pie crusts, etc.
and yes, they are raw.
