I would really like to fast, but I'm new to fasting. I prefer reading a book to reading info on the computer. Can you recommend a good book? Thanks in advance.

The old classic: Fasting for Renewal of Life (Herbert M. Shelton). It was written some time ago, but stands up to the test of time.

I would highly recommend Paul Bragg's The Miracle of Fasting and Dr. Douglas Graham's pamphlet on Hygienic Fasting. I own both and they are excellent.

I really like Rational Fasting by Arnold Ehret. This guy was fasting, stressing the importance of eliminating toxins from the body, and healing the body with diet already in the early 1900s. This is a paragraph from his book.
"Gluttony can best be conquered by the substitution of a counter pleasure, which we get through a new diet. Our taste will change and the very craving for the things our tongue liked so well will disappear. After a change to a fruit diet is once established, you will get more pleasure out of your meals than ever before."
He also talks about raw foodists being around in the early 1900's but I can't find that page now. I think its amazing that all these things that I think are relatively new ideas in reality have been around for years and years.

I love Paul Bragg's "The Miracle of Fasting." I thought it was excellent and informative, as well as very inspiring.

Hi! I just read the 'Masters Cleanse" it is fasting on lemon water basically, but there are a bunch of forums on the web with people actually doing it. It seems like a really good one, but I just don't currently have the will power... :o)

My dad fasted a lot when I was younger, I knew little about it.
He went on 21 day fasts, but it didn't phase me.
However, now that I'm older, I became more knowledgable in that area, and can honestly say that the all time best fasting book I've come across is from FREEDOMYOU - www.freedomyou.com
They have four books-All four are good-but the one about fasting is incredible. no exaduration. I'm reluctant when it comes to fasting / diet books, because they can often be mediocre, this one however was top of the line, and not the kind that makes you seem like you're way in over your head in your diet and the author is some dieting monk, no on the contrary, this is the kind of book that speaks to its reader on a personal level making it very helpful. I honestly recommend this far above any other fasting book that maybe out there.

Hi Linda-
I'm new to fasting (completed a seven day juice fast in May and am currently on day three of a six day juice fast) but I've found Herbert M. Shelton's Fasting can Save Your Life and The Miracle of Fasting by Paul Bragg EXTREMELY helpful..I've also found Pamela Serure's 3 Day Energy Fast helpful to get through the first three days (This is specific to juice fasting). What I did when I first became interested was to explore the resources at the library. Depending on where you live your library may be part of a consortium, so you may have access to many many more resources than you thought through interlibrary loan. An dthe great thing is that for most libraries you can search the catalog from home. I live on Long Island so I have access to the resources in about 50 or 60 public libraries throught he county system. (I'm a librarian :)) Happy Reading!!
