I managed to come up with a flax seed cracker that I liked (didn't care for the one in Alissa's book). Forgive my measurements. They're a bit more crumbly than Alissa's, though that might be from not letting the flax soak long enough.

3/4 bowl of flax seed, soaked a couple hours (not patient enough!)
About 1 tbsp of pre-mixed taco seasoning from the health food store.
About 1.5 tbsp pre-ground flax seed powder
About 2 tbsp raw sesame seeds (evened out the texture)
A little bit of salt (I've been craving salt this week!)

Let mix settle about 30 minutes (my theory was that the ground flax would get more gooey). Dehydrate.

They were astonishingly close to doritos, if less salty.

T,

what is in the pre-mixed taco seasoning - any chance I could whip it up myself?

Thanks,
mel

I'm not sure what they put in it, but it tasted like a usual mix of:
paprika
onion powder
chili powder
cumin
cayenne
salt

It looks like it's got a spot of black pepper in it, too, and may have a touch of garlic powder. I only bought it because I'm really missing my Mexican foods, and it smelled divine. If I had any skill with spices, I'd probably be able to mix it myself (my attempts at taco seasoning have always not been quite right).

I might just try this recipe. I need a good salty crunch to go with my guacamole. Raw corn chips are too sticky. Crunchy, but sticky.

Thanks for the recipe!

Looks good, thanks.

Years ago, I made corn chips and made them Nacho Cheese Doritos style. They came out great.
Great additions to your spice mix are sundried tomatoes, nutritional yeast, jalapeno to what you have listed, sans the cayenne. I may have used red bell pepper too.
For a BBQ, I used a bit more tomato and some dates.

Excellent spice additions! I just found some nutritional yeast in the store, too.

Incidentally, I like that the sesame seeds don't stick to your teeth, so the flax doesn't seem to as much. Though I may have eaten too many flax seeds today.

I adore cilantro. It's really hard to find fresh in this area. I did stock on some dry, but it's not quite the same. Thanks!

Does anyone know what 3/4 of a bowl of flax seed amounts to? I don't know how big of a bowl to use.......would 3/4 of a cup be the same? Or double that?

I have the same question as sherahtaylor? Is this recipe supposed to call for 3/4 cup flax or something else? Help, please?
