From the Arm and Hammer website:
"ARM & HAMMER® Baking Sodanot Animal, not Vegetable, but Mineral!
Baking Soda, alias sodium bicarbonate, is a naturally occurring substance that is found in all living things, where it helps regulate their pH balance. ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda is made from soda ash, also known as sodium carbonate. To make ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda, the soda ash is mined in the form of an ore called trona. The soda ash is then dissolved into a solution through which carbon dioxide is bubbled and sodium bicarbonate precipitates out, forming "Pure, Safe and Natural"
ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda. You remember that from chemistry class, don't you?"

Baking Soda is made in a lab though, from inorganic ingredients so I wouldn't recomend it for a raw foodist. Much like the difference between sea salt and table salt.

That's funny. There is a place called Trona in California near Ridgecrest where I live. Trona is know for it's soda ash mine. I had no idea the ore they were mining is actually called Trona. So, I learned today Trona, CA is named after Trona.
Weird.

Good thread. I'd been wondering the same thing this morning after reading the other thread about teeth-brushing and stuff.
Thanks for bringing this up. :)

It should be. It's made from minerals. I've never heard that it isn't and I know many vegans who use it
