Well well well...just got my lovely package from Nature's First Law today (which i had to pay horrible amounts of duty for, but hey...) in it, there was a bag of raw cacao nibs, and...WOW!!! i was in a hurry to work when the package arrived, so all i could do was smell them and take a couple and chew on them, just to get a feel for it...holy crappola!!! i don't know what to say...just the smell alone made me feel very peculiar (if you get my drift ;) ...after work, and after i had a salad, i made a mousse from ground cacao nibs, a banana, some raw almond butter and some agave syrup (how do you pronounce that word anyways? agave?) but...wow...it was soooooo good...and i swear, i felt like i was high!!! like really...i couldn't stop bouncing and squeeling for joy...i was seriously going crazy (my cats all came running, and were looking at me like...huh? what's she up to now?) and even now...half an hour later...i'm so flush with endorphins...it feels totally crazy...like i'm soooooo happy...i have this warm fuzzy feeling in my chest...it feels like my heart chakra opened super wide and i can feel all the love in the world (ok...cheesy...but really!!!) :) all i can say is WOW!!! it feels very spiritual and stuff...i used to be a hardcore chocolate addict...so much that i would have chocolate for breakfast...i'd seriously start crying if i didn't get it, and would do everything to get it...just like a junkie!!! everyone that knows me...knows that about me...everyone bribes me with chocolate all the time cause they know (well not anymore haha) but when i used to have conventional chocolate i would crash and feel like shit within 20 minutes or so of eating it...my heart would flutter and i'd get all nervous and stuff...but this...it feels totally different...i think i'm in love hahaha :) anyways...i'm rambling...just thought i'd share :)

cacao nibs are raw chocolate...all chocolate is made from cacau...it is the inner part? i think of the cocoa or also called cacao bean...the texture is like a coffee bean, with the flavor of very bitter chocolate...you can't just eat them out of the bag...i ground mine in the spice grinder and mixed it with agave syrup for sweetness, and then i blended that with a banana and some almond butter...came out really nice, although you can still taste the difference between that and conventional chocolate, it's very good...i went for a whole month without chocolate, so it was really good to me...:) not everyone likes it though...as for receiving packages...you can phone them (UPS) and tell them that you're not gonna be home and then you can go pick it up at the office closest to you

Just answering one of your questions.... Agave is pronounced "a-GAH-vey" or more like "uh-GAH-vey" I guess.

Thanks for sharing this with us Amethyst! I was also wondering about these little nibs... maybe that's why those Naturals First Law guys are always up in a tree naked? It's the cacao nibs!!!

My next avatar will be me in a tree naked with a bag of cacao nibs.

Hello,
It's my first post here, although I have been reading posts for some while. This board is really the best that I have read so far. Thanks.

My name is Ibrahim and I read this chocolate post today and wanted to let you know that www.rawbakery.com also carries organic cacao nibs, which cost less.

We also do sell the nibs freshly ground up as powder.
Yes it is advertising but I couldn't stop myself.
thanks
Ibrahim

Hiya Amethyst,

You seem to be having the best weekend ever! I just got back from Boarders and found a really interesting book on chocolate and all the different types there are in the world, like coffee. I guess each one has different flavors and effects. The author kept on mentioning how one of the best treats in the world besides chocolate was eating the actual fruit, before the seeds are sun dried. I'm not sure if it's even possible to get the fruit though.

Cheers!
