Hey folks,
If you read my journal you know what happened...I tried to make a recipe involving caramelized sugar for my son's class potluck...and I got BURNED literally and figuratively.

Burn #1: After 3 months raw, I'm awkward around my stovetop, wasn't on top of things and BURNED two pans of sugar before getting it "right" the third time.

Burn #2: I burned my hand on the pot handle AND the caramelized sugar as I poured it out.

Burn #3: I burned my mouth when I tried to "cheat" and taste that poisonous lava.

Burn #4: I wasted two hours fussing with this fiasco and will waste more time tomorrow scrubbing the pots.

Burn #5: I ate a few of the final product (caramelized walnuts filled with sugared almond-meal with orange extract) and felt my energy crash and burn. My legs felt heavy, my eyelids heavy, and I felt so sad and emotional. I had a hot shower and some glasses of lemon water to get past it. I went from feeling fine to feeling very chronic-fatigue-syndromy in the space of thirty minutes.

So, the moral of this tale is: Don't play with sugar or you'll get BURNED! If anyone has any other thoughts or cautionary tales about sugar, post 'em here!

Sorry about your burn and your getting sick after the SAD food.
As for your pans...soak in cold water with baking soda in over night and the burn should come out easier. No more sugar I guess.

As much as I like the moral of your story, I'm sorry you got burned.

Ouch! Hope your fingers are okay! I've learned the hard way that me and processed sugars don't get along well. I end up crying, having heart flutters, feeling spacy. Generally wigging out! No wonder healthy people regard it as a drug!

This is why raw is better for me. I burned my self on steam from a rice cooker when I was making rice for my dog last week. It was awful, heated up my wedding ring and burned me more. I cried like a baby. :(
