Hi. During Hurricane Rita (the 2nd hurricane that hit the southern part of the USA), I did a week long fast. I am interested in doing a water fast, but I remember running into the problem of blood in the urine.

It really was blood. It wasnt slightly pink or red... it was blood. I've heard of ppl's kidneys shutting down while on these fasts.

Is there anything I can do? What was the cause? It could have been the stress of everything as well, but I HAVE heard of these things happening to ppl before. It was my 1st fast. I was forced into it since there was no food for about a week. Almost no water either.

This is going out to MissLinda, but I'm looking for feedback from anyone.

wow, I have had bleeding in my urine, but not during a fast. I would use caution.

this is an indication of a more serious problem that needs to be handled by a holistic md....

It's scary to imagine this happening, but how did you feel physically in general at the time?

That is how Medical Doctors discover kidney problems. That is usually the reason they want a urine sample. Usually you are not able to see the blood with the eye. By seeing it, there was quite a bit of blood.
Maybe it was just the wrong time. But do get yourself checked out. Better SAFE than sorry.

I was experiencing unusual bleeding about this time last year. It was visible in drops in the toilet after I urinated, a really heavy period, pimples and plucked eyebrows that bled profusely, and tiny cuts that were bleeding far more and longer than normal.

I saw a kidney specialist and my N.D., and had a camera put up my urethra. Other than a teensy bladder polyp, nobody found anything. Nothing. Zilch. Zero. I was sent home and told to "follow up" in a month.

I took matters into my own hands and worked to substantially reduce my personal and work stress (which were both high at the time), and the bleeding subsided. Never knew the cause, and have never experienced it again.

Is that an answer for you? Nope, cuz I'm not a doctor. It was worth it, though, for me to go through the tests. Ruling out potential "western" causes for my problem were helpful in pointing me towards the real problems, which I believe were depressed systems due to stress and poor nutrition. Your mileage may vary...

The only time I ever had blood in my urine was when I had a bladder infection. I was in a great deal of pain at the time as well so I knew something was wrong. You really do need to see a Dr. and find out the cause.

Ya know, it was crazy because I had NO pain whatsoever. You can imagine my shock to see nothing but thick blood, but saying to myself "but I feel FINE"

Other than a load of stress, everything was ok. When I saw the blood, I made more of a point to look for some food or energy drink to add some calories so I could stop bleeding.

Could have been you felt so fine because you got rid of whatever it was coming out of ya.

How are you now?
