I was wondering if the raw food diet can be done without using so many nuts, or dried food? Or is it too hard? I mean, its so expensive to be buying so many nuts and dates etc as so many recipes call for them!

I hardly eat any nuts or seeds and almost no dried fruit. I find that I feel a lot better just eating simple fruits and vegetables.

I don't eat any nuts and I don't dehydrate things either. I've been raw for six months so it can be done! :)

I just eat a lot of whatever fruit or vegetable that I'm craving until I am full. I barely ever graze, but a lot of people do.

Oh right so u just do mono eating? thats a good idea... does it take a while to get used to it or is it easy? Coz ive found it hard sticking to raw coz all the recipes i have you need to use a blender about three times so i give up doing that every meal!
So do u rarely eat salads? do u just eat one type of thing at a time all the time?

I'm not sure if you mean me, but I'll try and answer anyway :)
I do tend to graze but depends on how I'm feeling or what kind of day I have ahead of me (the plans might mean I have to change how I eat for the day).
I listen to my body, giving it what it asks for and when it asks for it which so far has meant mostly fruit in the day in its natural state and greens. It sounds basic but food has become exciting to eat, much more so than when I was cooked!
Simple things have become really satisfying and I can eat just a bowl of romaine and find it really tastey.
I've become much more creative with my evening meals, especially as I've gone along and found my feet over time, and this comes much more naturally to me now. I don't use raw "cook" books as they often dehydrate things and so on, but the pictures do give me ideas of what goes with what and things like that.
I have a lot of fun on the diet and eat a varity of things, but they're not as fancy as a lot of raw food dishes have become nowadays. They've helped me to thrive, though! :)

yeah, I really like mono eating because I can really tell when I am full, but sometimes I'll eat a little of this, a little of that.
I don't like making saladas, I usually just eat plain romaine lettuce from the heart when I want lettuce, but I really eat a lot fruit.

I find it hard to mono eat. I was eating mostly fruit with a salad at night. I was getting enough calories and fat, but I just for some reason started giving in to cravings. I ate cooked today, yesterday, AND the day before. I haven't eaten cooked since mid June a few times.
I don't know if that's related to my trying to switch to more fruits. Maybe I was detoxing a little bit since cutting out the high fats/nuts.
I think if you do it right, make sure you get enough nutrients, you can eat simply and be fine. Especially if you have willpower.

It's HOT outside Whew and the only thing that tastes good at the moment is Fruity Fruit Fruit!!
I don't stress at all about it anymore. I just eat what i'm hungry for. Less nuts the hotter it gets.
I too have to watch my money with eating raw so I do the best I can with the cheaper stuff.
Watermelon is pretty cheap at the moment and Grapes arent too bad. Cherry season is still here so buy what you can :)

It always boggles my mind when people say they cant consume raw nuts on a raw diet comfortably? Maybe there still changin, but your body liver bile should be top notch after being on raw and cleansing, detoxing, Your body should be like a brand new car... Interesting!~

Opinion:
There are no raw food police. This is not a diet that comes out of package. YOU will be one of the pioneers by doing the research....and finding out what works for YOU!
-You certainly do NOT need to eat a lot of nuts. My advice is to eat a very WIDE and VARIED diet of raw foods - and to integrate them at a pace that challenges you - but does not leave you hungry or craving.

This is all great, thatnks for the information! Just one more question: I don't really like eating a lot of nuts, or during the hot weather, im not drawn to bananas or avocados or anything like that, so will I be deficient in omega oils or EFAs?

Maybe you will start craving these foods when you need them? I have maybe one avacdo a week and some flax seeds and so far I haven't had any problems doing it like this. I think just go along, keep checking how you're feeling and checking back with your body with what it needs.
It's very hot this time of year too so that's another reason why you might not fancy these foods right now :)

I used to be the Queen of Gourmet Raw dehydrated food, now I eat fruit about 99% of the time, hardly any greens, and almost no nuts.
I just eat what I want and that's it.
I find that in the summer hot weather, I only want juicy fruits, in the cooler weather, I want more nuts and nut milks.
I haven't had much of anything dehydrated lately. I do make marinara sauce and have that on zucchini noodles, or maybe a couple of rawviolies, but that was a couple of weeks ago, pretty much now, it's just fruit.
I also eat whatever fruit I feel like, some times, I eat pineapple for weeks on end, then it was mango, then coconuts, so I eat whatever looks good to me at the time.LOL
Which is usually fresh juicy ripe fruit, and not much of anything else right now.

yea i avoid dehydrated stuff it seems like in between raw and cooked not really what im aiming for plus i think a good website is thegardendiet.com and their family says to avoid dehydrated foods and even supplements as the food will give you the nurtition but i think they eat a bit of nuts, i just switch it up everyday i decide which days i will go lower on fruit with more fat and some days lots of fruit and no fat added or very little at night, im not sure if it really affects weight loss i have been losing a pound a day but its so hard for me to get my calories in im 165 now i was 175 im 5'7 but active and im sure some is muscle as i was bbing before i went raw now ive stopped and im into more endurance activites...find whats right for you

I've found that when I eat too many nuts, it triggers the same sort of addiction response that cooked food used to. For example, I recently bought a couple of packages of raw, dehydrated and seasoned nuts (made by a great company called Living Nutrition) - they were sooooo yummy. Only problem is, I ate all 3 bags in a weekend, ended up gaining 2 pounds (I've since lost it but anyway...), and feeling awful. If you are able to eat nuts in recipes only or in moderation, great. But, if you are like many of us doing raw, who suffer from cooked food addiction, eating nuts may trigger cravings. Just my 2 cents...

On the theme of "Our bodies crave what they need" I would say that in the hot weather they need moisture to avoid dehydration. That's found in fruit. Other things we need at this season are found there too.
In colder weather, we want heavier things because they tend to "warm" us inside with their fat content etc.
Simple, I think.
So we shouldn't really worry so much about whether we are getting all the same nutrients all year round. We probably don't need the same nutrients all year round. If we eat what is largely seasonal, that is a good basis. Stored things, dehydrated things, feel better in winter.
