I went camping this weekend. Before we left my hubby and I stopped and bought me plenty of produce. Now we went camping with some of his family that I don't know real well. His dad, stepmom and his stepmoms family.

For dinner that night they fixed huge salads. They fixed corn on the cobb with SEA SALT and COLD PRESSED ESTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL, they slightly grilled theirs but I just ate mine before grilling of course and it sure was yummy. They had what I would consider healthy SAD food -lean meats and rice with satueed pine nuts.

The next morning for breakfast they fixed a huge watermelon, canteoupe, honey dew, strawberries, and some pancakes. You know what I ate :D .

I snack on bananas and nuts in between.

For lunch -they fixed hummus (non-raw so I didn't have any) avocados, tomatoes, onions, sprouts, romaine, cucumbers, and pitas, rice, & chicken (no, I didn't have the last 3 ingrediants).

I am in utter shock at how healthy they ate compared to others I have been camped with. They were aware of my lifestyle of eating because I had explained it to my husbands stepmom. No one made a big deal about my diet or even made it the center of conversation. It was soooo awesome!

Just before we left my husbands step sister asked me if I thought that the diet I was on would help her daughter who has Epsteen Barr. I explained that I had it before raw and that I was now full of energy and have not had any flus or colds, that my immune system was finally working again. I told her I would let her borrow Alissas book to see if it was right for them. From talking to her I kind of think the whole family would like to do the lifestyle and well they are already making good choices so I don't see them having much trouble transitioning.

My husband said he really had to start doing even more raw after this weekend. I have not been on a bike in 5 years. Last time I did I couldn't bike more then about a mile and I had to walk my bike back walking very slow.

Well to my surprise I got on the bike and I kept biking and biking and biking, my husband went along with me and he couldn't keep up with me. He kept saying ok, I'm tired now. We at least biked 7 miles and I could have went for another 20 miles, but my husband I could see was totally wiped out and I knew if I didn't stop he wouldn't either and he was starting to look pretty rough.

I asked him to buy me some new tires for my bike because this was going to be my new thing. I am going to starting biking every other day in between me going to the gym. I am sooo excited. I finally found something that I LOVE to do. That was such an awesome time!

Sounds like a great experience all around. I can't wait to have that kind of energy daily. Mine comes & goes. It's great that his family actually seemed to understand that eating raw could be a very good thing. You can be responsible for improving everyone's health. :)

It sure was! Mine does go up and down too in between detoxes. The day before the camping trip I was going through some major detox symptoms and told my husband that I may not be able to go, but it soon past and as you could read it was a great weekend. Yes they were great about raw! It sure did my weekend alot more happier!

That is so awesome Lay-Lay!!
I will be going camping some time with my dad sometime this month(most likely) ....which will be interesting since I haven't seen him in a while (just phone convos.) It will be just him and I. He's never been with me in person since I went raw...I think my energy and happiness will totally shock him.

any way, its so cool that they ate much more healthily, my dad is definately not like that. Although, one time when we were picking my brother up from his house, no one was home so I walked in, I saw so many bunches of bananas around my eyes danced lol.

It is so wonderful that you have touched their lives, and (it sounds) quite possibly their health :)

It sounds like you had such a great time... I'm so happy to hear that.

Your story also helps me because I love camping and have been wondering how produce will hold up in coolers! Thanks so much and GOOD FOR YOU!! :D

This is encouraging. We are going to visit relatives in B.C. next week and I am making up lists of what foods to take and what I will have to buy.
We may have to take family out to restaurants and for sure will be feeding them the rest of the time. So part of it is under our control. That means we will have to get food for them, but at least we can make sure we can have what we want too.

Hey Raw Strawberry,
Thanks for the link. That is neat that there are stores in all the places I am likely to visit! I haven't been back to the Okanagan for a few years, and the last time was in the winter. It will be good to get to some of those fruit stands again, or even go right to an orchard. Talk about God's country! Where are you? At the Coast? I doubt I will get out there this time, but maybe in the Fall. I might need some directions to places out there. Are there any Raw restaurants there?

What a nice experience. Thanks for sharing. I'm going camping this weekend and was kinda getting worried as to what to eat/bring.

Your experience made me feel more postive about this weekend.

I went camping a month ago with my SAD family and I was in paradise eating all the yummy raw fruits and veggies all day and they all had stomach aches and were sick of washing dishes and having to figure out ways to cook everything. Yuck. It comes to a point where you wonder why people don't see that we weren't meant to do this to our food. Look how easy it is to eat an apple in the wilderness and then look at how hard it is to cook a hamburger. Look at all the tools needed. Anyway, yes, camping on raw is wonderful!

Yes, lol, my prep time was like 30 seconds or less. Hmmm, what do I want out of the cooler for dinner, watermelon or strawberries? Their prep time took hours fixing rice and chicken.

I volunteered to make some coleslaw for our rafting camping trip. Doe placed a list of condiments on here and the mayonaise is out of this world. I could eat raw coleslaw everyday. It is just that good! I am going to make a big bowl with mayo and one with raw mayo.

Thanks for inspiration because we are going to camp this month. I don't worry anymore, because now my diet is very simple - I don't even make salads anymore, because I am trying to stop using oils(concentrated food) and salt. The only thing is I will miss my green smoothies, but just in casre I will take a blender, because the bathrooms in the camp might have electric outlet. GAIM sells hand cranked blender - did anyone used it? Do they really work?

I don't know what GAIM is, but I got one called a Vortex. It is a pretty neat idea, but unless you have a real muscleman in your entourage, it is just too much work to make a smoothie. I don't know if it would ever get it smooth enough even if someone had the patience. I think they are meant mostly for already-liquid drinks at tailgate parties. My DH was pretty ticked off at me spending $80 or whatever it was and now it is in the storage unit. New and in its box, tried only a couple of times. He is very muscular (and determined) and couldn't get it to work well. I should sell it on ebay sometime.
