On the DVD, Alissa says that some diabetics are able to get off their medication after doing a raw diet. Do they need to take special precautions on a raw diet, such as not eating fruit, or not eating fruit in the morning, or not eating fruit alone? And does this ever change, or is it something they always need to be careful about?

Leslie,
I am a type II diabetic. I am still on my medications but my blood sugar readings have been reduced drastically. Type II diabetes is one more of excessive consumption of fat as opposed to sugar ( although that is a factor, there is more problems from sucking down animal fat) I do eat whole fruit and with that, my blood sugar does not rise since I have been raw and also drink fresh juices made from fruit - and using the suggestions below, it no longer rises at all.
Todd provided a suggestion, that by adding cucumber or celery juice helps abate the spiking in the blood, so I tried it and it worked wonderfully, although my readings have been great, they did not move after the juice.
You may also add 1-2 tbs of ground flax seed to fruit juice and it too will not cause your sugar to spike and it also balances you as well. I do like this method a lot because of the benefits of flax
Then I learned and researched that green beans act as insulin and will cause your sugar to lower.
I do expect that my Doctor will change my medications in the spring, because with the benefit of raw, I am losing weight and type II diabetes major cause is obesity, and with my sugars even after a meal being 95-105, my meds will need to be reduced. I have read many testimonies from person who have major results and reduction or total relief from medications being raw. My caution is always, and I mean always talk with your medical care giver. My Doctor - a family practivce M.D. pratices allopathic medicne, but beleives and encourages me to remain Raw. Any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

I tried this with my smoothie this morning, and I think it worked! Thank you for the suggestion!

I have a friend that has been in and out of the hospital due to her sugars spiking to 500.. Is there some site somewhere to help guide a diabetic in transitioning to raw>?
