My 5 yr old wouldn't eat and said it hurt. I looked in her mouth and there are sores on each side of her mouth in the cheek area. They look like a red lump. What could they be and what could I do to help them heal? Anyone know?

Thanks

What's her diet like?

I know that I have had oral thrush and anytime I eat cooked food it flairs up but when I'm raw, it's not there.

Sounds like it "might" be that or it could be something she ate that was very acidic and irritated her mouth...it's hard to know without knowing what her diet is like and what she ate up to 2-3 days prior to her complaint of the mouth soreness.

I'm not sure what to make it go away as I normally just eat fruit and within a day, it's gone but nuts will irritate it worse at this point until it clears up if it's what I'm thinking it may be.

Also, is it possible that she bit her jaws when eating/chewing something earlier?

Are there any of these sores anywhere else like the roof of her mouth, the tongue?

Rawkinlocs-

Thanks for your reply!
I know it is not thrush as there are no visible white spots anywhere in her mouth. The bumps are more red, a little blue with a hole in the middle. Really weird. They are on both sides of her mouth.
She could of eaten something that bothered her or yeah she could of bitten herself but it's weird how they are on both sides.

I am going to bring her to the dentist very soon and I will inform you if I know anything more. I'm not sure how helpful the dentist will be though.

I appreciate your help very much!

Hi,
It could just be a few ulcers. (That's what we always called them growing up... probably not the technical term, though my dad is a dentist.) If that's the case, avoiding the more acidic fruits is going to help it heal faster, as well as drinking lots of water and maybe rinsing a few times with mouthwash to keep it clean. I normally use Zilactin-B (not the kind for coldsores, but regular mouth sores) and that is found in any drugstore or grocery store, or your dentist may give you samples. They have some that are grape flavored that your daughter may prefer. Good luck... they are very annoying since they get irritated every time something goes in the mouth.
