I got the BEST Asian coleslaw at the Co-op just now. I'm sure they got the recipe from a book, but it's none of the ones I have. Anyone recognize it or have a recipe that is similar?

It has (had):
Shredded Carrots
Purple and Green Cabbage
Broccoli
Mushrooms
LOTS of ginger

And the sauce had miso in it and was probably something like
Miso
Tamari
Olive Oil?

Thanks

I am so glad you enjoyed your coleslaw. I don't have a specific recipe but I don't think there is too much you can do to make a mistake in making Cole Slaw. It is still exciting to try new things......Stay RAW........

Get the ingred you mention, start blending them until you get a flavor/texture you like. You may even come up with something you like better!!

It's fun to try new combinations of foods/flavors and come up with a recipe of my own....usually, it's a 'variation on a theme' as most recipes are anyway.

I just saw this post and then stumbled upon a recipe at greenchef. It is by Vanessa Sherwood, and it looks very good in the picture. here is the link:

If you decide to make it, let us know how it turns out.

I had that Vanessa Sherwood recipe a couple of weeks ago and really liked it. It doesn't seem to keep very well, though, so don't make more than you're going to eat right then.

Hello- Not sure if you'd like this recipe-It is from the south beach diet and i prepared the dish on several occasions and actually liked it. It is really simple but no miso though. Let me know if you try it out. And please feel free to spice it up or kick it up some notches!!

1/2 small head green cabbage
3 scallions, chopped
2 T dark sesame oil
2 T rice wine vinegar

Combine all exept the sesame seeds, toss well, chill until ready to serve. Then add the sesame seeds and toss again before serving

It'd be easy enough to use untoasted ones.

This recipe looks great, I think I'm going to try it!

Isn't dark sesame oil toasted as well? Untoasted sesame oil doesn't have the flavour of the toasted ones... it just tastes like mild oil.

The nice things about those slaws is you can tweek them just about any way you want to. I have one here: http://www.therawtable.com/recipes.htm

The flavor slightely improved using toasted sesame oil, but it is, in fact, toasted. If you prefer to, you can also use raw - you just don't get as much of the asian taste.

I hope this helps.

Spectatrix- The asian slaw will keep well if you keep the dressing separate....

I've had Vanessa's asian slaw a bunch of times.... (made by Vanessa herself!!)
If you keep the dressing seperate -- mixing only the amount you want to eat at any one time-- the recipe will keep for up to a week!!!!
And, its super delicious!!!!
