View Full Version : I want to give up on my brother- he just doesn't care for any raw foods

I just made Coconut Caramel Cookies from Living Cuisine, the ones that everyone here is raving about. My brother didn't care for it, AGAIN. He said that he likes cookies to be buttery taste.

I've tried so hard to introduce healthy foods to him but he just doesn't like any of them. His favorite sweets are cookies. But even Coconut Caramel Cookies can't please his palate. I made a whole bunch just for him since I thought for sure he would like it since I haven't heard of anyone not liking it. Now I don't know what to do with all these cookies (I can't eat them because of proper food combining).

Rawkinlocs, if you are reading this, can you tell me how your eldest son is doing now? You mentioned that he was kind of like this. Has he liked ANY raw dishes you've made?

My kids understand healthy eating, They don't always do it just like I didn't but over the last 2 weeks my older son has been watching me intently when I go into the kitchen. He ""Hovers"" hehe

I made a Raw Sweetpotato Curry and it totally knocked his socks off.
I think that really you have to eat they way you feel is best and hope that he sees the changes in you that he wants.

Can't make him love it.. That goes for everything. People all have a free choice. Just keep making goodies and living Raw and let him watch who you are while you live it :)

I learned a long time ago ~ Leave others to their otherness and take care of youself.

Sure keeps life simple and uncomplicated plus frustration-free.

Thanks for your feedback, GB. My brother cares more about taste than health. He eats out so much and so much processed foods. Sigh. Can you share the Sweet potato curry recipe?

I think I may have to follow your path, Revvell. It can be very frustrating, especially when I have to force myself to eat them (really don't want to because of food combining).

Hi Linda,

Yeah, my son is still pretty much the same. I don't even TRY to get him to sample raw dishes anymore. I just let him eat whole raw foods (and whatever limited amounts of cooked foods I buy for them) and leave it at that. He's eating more raw, though...raw as in fruit and that's fine. He may never want those prepared raw dishes and that's okay because at some point it seems many raw fooders end up eliminating a lot of that from their diets anyway so it will just save him the trouble. OR...perhaps with him and your brother the more he eats fresh raw foods perhaps his tastebuds will change and then some of that stuff he might actually try and like! But as Revvell said, sometimes ya just gotta leave others to their otherness.

Some people will like raw prepared foods and some will not. I sat here one day while my son's friend and my daughter's friend were here and had like a mini-raw class with them and the boy tried a slice of raw cheesecake and said it was good...the girl tried some raw "pasta" and sauce and chocolate ice cream and said they were very good. So, things my kids claim they don't like, their FRIENDS like and actually said they wish their parents ate more like us!

I think that perhaps too that sometimes when family tries to get you to do a thing, you just turn on an automatic "rebel button" but had it been someone else like a friend, perhaps my son and your brother would react differently...who knows! *shrugs*

But just keep on living the life and being the example and who knows...your brother just might come around one day even if it's just eating more fruits and veggies!

I know it's hard to sit back and watch our loved ones continue to eat badly when we know what we know about eating raw and you want them to be turned on to it and love it as much as we do, but unfortunately it doesn't always work that way. People will do what they want to do until they are ready to make a change.

Yup! SWEET POTATO CURRY commin up!

I have been working on different versions of this and I am, by nature, a "Throw it in there" Cook (or uncook). Quantities are optional and as this is really one of my comfort foods when I crave that substatial feeling, it is VERY complex in flavor and some don't like that.

I also don't eat this all the time but if the craving for complex hits me??
WHAM this is my Raw answer to it!!

Base Curry Mixture:

I mix together Raw Olive Oil (Man this stuff is expensive BLAHH)
Finely ground Cumin Seeds - I use my Morter and pestle ( you can use already prepared but look for raw. Hard to find)
Finely crushed/blended Organic Sundried tomatoes that I placed in some Raw Olive Oil and made a paste of.
some Fresh Coriander/cilantro chopped very fine in a food mill
some morter ground coriander seeds kinda corse cuz I like that BLAST of flavor.
Tumeric (go kinda easy until you get the amount that pleases you)
I also add a pinch each of cinnamon, cloves and cardomom (ALL ground in my morter of course)
I add a small amount of Cayanne pepper and this is the biggest matter of taste for people typically.

I mix everything into the Olive Oil and it looks like a liquidy paste.
Let this sit and meld a bit before you put in on the potatoes.
The longer you let it sit the better and richer the flavors are.

3-4 Large Sweet Potatoes Peeled and Ground in the food processor. (DO NOT GRATE THEM) you will not get the best and right effect and the ground lasts longer and are more chewy and the consistancy MATTERS!! I use my food processor and get the pieces near Rice size. Cut the potatoes in chunks first don't try to grind them whole or they get stuck hehe

I place the ground potatoes in a large bowl with room for mixing.

I then open my cabinet and start the journey :)

I sprinkle on:

Raw/unhulled seasame seeds
Sundried and Ground kelp
A bit of Celtic Sea Salt
A cup of good organic raisins (optional but OOO you will miss the flavor later)
Raw Pumpkin seeds (will make it all the more "Chewier" but go easy don't over do this one)

I add in One med/lg Sweet Vadalia onion chopped corse (nice chunks) that I have left to air dry to let them mellow and breath. I have added more cuz ME? Love the sweet onions

Ok now is the time to MARRY the Curry :)

Throw it on and mix at all together.. WHAT FUN!
Smell that? Ohh heaven..

I will tell you that if you eat it right away it will be good, next day? EVEN BETTER! Let them have their "Honeymoon night" together and you will be glad you waited hehe

You also can eat this all alone but it is better next to other things. I put mine on a bed of Raw Corse chopped portabella Mushrooms (again rice sided pieces)

NOW that is endulging in something that can cure the strongest CRAVINGS and you can really chew it and get pure satisfaction out of it :)

And PLEASE remember Don't grate the potatoes!! I tried it that way and it was AWEFUL!! GRIND THEM! My food processor is totally fine for this.

Seems like a ton of work but TOTALLY worth it :)

ENJOY!

I agree with Rawkinlocks and Revvell, to just let people be even though we mean well. We are not responsible for the behavior of others, only for our own lives. Personally I've noticed that when I concentrate on my own life and mind my own business, this not only gives a great sense of inner peace (very nice :)), but it also affects people in an indirect way. Suddenly people around me are starting to eat more salads and fruits, without me having to say anything about it. I don't know why that is, but I guess my behavior is just contagious...
A long time ago, I was a strict and very annoying vegetarian, bugging other people about their food choices. I'm happy I'm not like that anymore. I didn't consider myself to act very nicely towards others then... And people only tend to just sort of rebel if you preach, if you know what I mean.
Personally I hate it when people preach to me too and tell me how I should live or eat, because THEY think it is the best way. Well, for thém it is, but for me it is not. This goes the other way around too. We all have free will (thank god), can make our own choices and learn from that. We can experience what we want to experience in life. Your brother is just not ready yet, just like you may not have been ready for certain changes earlier in your life. Every one has to follow his own path.
