I'm not qutie sure, but I do know it is very alkaline (I hope I spelled that right!)! I've heard something along the lines of this, but not actaully certain what it does.

I've heard some Raw Foodist are against it, I think, not sure though. And I have no idea why?

I use ACV Raw and Unpasturized in some of the things I eat and rinsing my hair and body with it.

But as for weight loss?
I will no longer think ONE thing is what is going to help or solve my weight loss issues. No no no I won't go back to that prison.

I am TOTALLY and UTTERLY done with doing any ONE diet or program for it. I've tried it all and the best thing is High Raw Whole foods and that (FOR ME) is that.

I now have real freedom AND weightloss!!!!

Sorry just had to spout that off for what is is worth and I am 26 lbs into my 165 weightloss. LOTs to lose but it's coming off :D

Apple cider vinegar should be used very sparingly, if at all, and not as a means to lose weight. It is a condiment, not a cure all. A natural, healthy, balanced raw diet, will cause weight loss if your body needs to shed it. You don't need a specific so called 'wonder food' for that.
I've read of people with anorexia who ate (or should I say drank) vinegar to lose weight. It seems to dilute the fat in food or prohibits the fat to be absorped by your body or something. It certainly doesn't taste good to do that and it certainly isn't healthy. There are even raw foodists who say you shouldn't eat vinegar at all, because it is pure poison. Dr Doug Graham for example, on his website he explains why:
http://www.foodnsport.com/mambo2/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=65

Personally, I have never liked vinegar, and apple cider vinegar so so. Nowadays I don't use it all. I consider it, just like alcohol, a poison, something that isn't meant for human consumption. Apple cider vinegar is made something like this: apple juice is fermented due to yeast bacteria and then you have apple cider/apple wine. This cider is then fermented with vinegar bacteria, so the eventual vinegar has undergone a double fermentation. If eating raw means eating as simple and as natural (=unprocessed) as possible, vinegar shouldn't be part of the diet. Of course, to each his own, there are raw foodist who drink wine because it's 'raw', but does that make it healthy? Of course there are people who claim apple cider vinegar is healthy because of the pectine etc, but if you want that, eat an apple. And wine is considered healthy by the ones who like to drink it, 'because of the tanins', but then again, if you want that, just eat the grapes. Eating fruit will cause weightloss, naturally. The human body wants to get rid of things like alcohol as soon as possible. Why? Because it is toxic, it shouldn't be in the body.

You can browse around on the internet to inform yourself, there are different sides to each story, use vinegar if you like and see how it tastes to you and how your body reacts to it. If it feels right to you, use it, if it doesn't, don't. Most people on this forum (including me) will/can tell you that they have lost weight due to a balanced raw diet and not due to using vinegar.

Are they talking about 'vinegar' ? Yes it's poison! Just like white table salt (two minerals)is poison. Is Apple Cider Vinerar somewhat similar to fermentation process of Rejuvelac? Just curious. And is taking 2 Tbs. as a condiment too much? Surely no one will drink a whole glass of this stuff even it it's 'healthy' or more so if it's unhealthy.

Personally I think it's another gimmick for desperate Americans that will do ANYTHING to lose weight other than change their lifestyle and diet....

I don't know what is too much. The body can handle a lot, and you certainly won't die if you drink some alcoholic drinks or eat some apple cider vinegar. Some people are more sensitive to these kind of things than others. And maybe it even does some persons really well, it all depends on the person. If you really enjoy apple cider vinegar and your body reacts good to it, there you go.
I think the fermentation process of Rejuvelac is different, however, I'm not sure. Coincidentally, this morning I read about how to make Rejuvelac. It is made of certain sprouts that kind of ferment in water and then that water contains some of the fermentation bacteria and is called Rejuvelac. I believe there are all different kinds of fermentation processes, depending on the bacteria, but I'm really not an expert.

I get the "good" apple cider vinegar made from the "mother" of vinegar, at the LHFS. This stuff is wonderful!

My grandma always swore by apple cider vinegar for lots of ailments.

I also found this information on a website, it's pretty interesting:

Apple Cider Vinegar Cocktail
This is health pioneer Paul Bragg’s famous tonic for heartburn. We’ve successfully used it on guests with upset stomachs and they’ve found quick relief.

1 heaping teaspoon raw honey
2 teaspoons raw apple cider vinegar
8 ounce glass of warm water

Mix ingredients together and drink.
We like to substitute 2 teaspoons of dried sugar cane juice (Sucanat) for the heaping teaspoon of honey. Both apple cider vinegar and dried sugar cane juice is high in potassium.
For variety, substitute mint tea for the water in the Apple Cider Vinegar Cocktail.

What’s Going On?
Many people think that too much acid causes heartburn in the stomach. But heartburn occurs when there is not enough of the right kind of acid to digest food properly.
The stomach needs hydrochloric acid to break down food. When there is not enough hydrochloric acid, the food starts to putrefy, producing organic acids which cause heartburn and indigestion.
Over-the-counter antacids appear to help because they neutralize these organic acids and the pain goes away. But the antacids have aggravated the situation because they have left the stomach more alkaline. Now an even greater amount of hydrochloric acid must be produced to finish digestion.
Apple cider vinegar is rich in malic acid, which increases the acidity of digestive fluids causing them to flow faster, which improves digestion.

Stiff Joints
Paul Bragg says he remembers seeing his dad come in from a grueling day of farm work during harvest time. His dad had been up since before daybreak and it was now late at night. He would go into the kitchen and fix the Apple Cider Vinegar Cocktail.
Paul’s dad explained, “Son, farm work is long, hard work. It can produce chronic fatigue in the body. Whatever is in this mixture relieves me of that chronic fatigue.”
The ingredient that was so effective in the drink was potassium. It helped renew his vitality and relieve the stiffness in his joints.
Potassium helps eliminate toxins from the body by putting them in solution so that they can be carried out of the body. It is as essential to the soft tissues of the body as calcium is to the hard structures. Potassium keeps the tissues healthy, soft and pliable.
The potassium in apple cider vinegar is like a detergent for the arteries. Clogged, caked arteries are cleaned out by taking the Apple Cider Vinegar Cocktail several times a day.
Many stiff-jointed men and women are set free from their misery after several months of taking the Apple Cider Vinegar Cocktail 3 or 4 times a day. Along with relieving the pain of arthritis, blood pressure also normalizes. The natural acids and enzymes in raw apple cider vinegar help thin and cleanse the blood.
Bragg also recommends cutting down on animal proteins and eliminating refined sugars. Animal proteins and fats tend to thicken the blood.

Muscle Cramps
Bragg recommends the same Cocktail recipe for those who suffer from muscle cramps. I remember as a child crying out in the middle of the night and having my dad rush in and rub my legs until the cramps eased. Back then, they were called “growing pains.”
Acid crystals interfering with circulation can cause these sharp pains in the feet or legs. Drinking the Cocktail several times a day allows these crystals to enter into solution and be eliminated.

There you have it!

I like to go back to the days of yore for some of the simpler ideas to help keep me healthy, and apple cider vinegar is just one of those things I believe in!

Happy trails to you, until we meet again...

It's supposed to speed up your metabolism. Hot peppers do the same. However the amount it is sped up is so slight that if you made no other changes in your diet at all except to add those things on a daily basis, you might lose a pound after a year.

Jacky, I've heard that too. Some people indeed say ACV is useful when you have problems with digesting raw food, especially when you just started and your stomach doesn't produce enough acid yet to digest all the fibers. The acid in ACV can help then. Another thing that can help in that case is sauerkraut. It seems to make digestion easier, so this could mean that it also makes losing weight easier as it regulates?
Mel, there are enough people who swear by ACV for losing weight (or not gaining) and other ailments, you could probably google that up. They drink like 2 ts of ACV in one glass of water, maybe a couple of times a day. Certainly not every one here is into Doug Graham, we are all just trying to help and give you different information on the topic. Some of us swear by using ACV, but others just don't.

Well I was curious about this... so I am doing my own experiement.

Still eating 100% raw, I have done 2 days of the ACV in water so far. First day I only did it in the morning and afternoon. Next morning I was down 2 lbs. Second day, morning, afternoon and night (with a lot of snacking on nuts), next morning down one lb. Today is day three.

I'll keep you updated, mel123. I plan to kick up my exercise program though starting tomorrow (okay lets face it... not kick it up but actually START). So that is something to consider for whatever happens next as well.

Apple Cider Vinegar is good for just about everything because of all the trace minerals that are found in it. And weight loss is one of the claims. I don't know how it works with RAW...............
