Could be pink eye. Sometimes the only symptom is the redness. It's highly contagious. You can get OTC drops from Similasan, but you also need to make sure to change his pillowcase daily, change his towels frequently and make sure he washes his hands and doesn't touch his eyes. This is very common in kids.

Could also be allergies. If his eyes are itchy or there is stringy pus in the eye, suspect this. This can come from the pollen in the air and not necessarily something he ate. Again, you can get OTC drops.

With either condition, washing the eyes frequently can bring relief. The best thing to use is a no tears baby shampoo. Dilute it with a little water and scrub with the eyes closed, then rinse well. You might also want to use a washcloth. What I do is go to the dollar store or similar place and get some cheap washcloths that I cut into little squares. I then through them away after use. You can of course simply wash the washcloths, but I prefer this method.

If you do not want to use the shampoo, you can use warm chamomile tea as a wash, provided he isn't allergic to that. With hayfever, sometimes this can be more annoying than soothing. In a pinch, plain water will do. You might also try artificial tear drops. But kids are often reluctant to take drops. With my daughter, sometimes the only thing she'll agree to do is use a compress of a warm chamomile tea bag.

Sometimes I'll just wake up and half of one of my eyes will be red. I don't really know what it is, but it is usually around for a couple of days. It doesn't bug me in terms of itchiness, soreness, etc. It's just annoying to have a red eye! I don't have allergies, so it's not that that causes it.
I didn't really help that much, did I :o hehe

thanks for the replies. it is definitely not pink eye. have seen that before. this is just redness on the inner part of his eye (the white part) he doesn't seem to be bothered by it. my mom is just having a fit about it though. that is the only symptom that he has though is eye redness. could be allergies, mine have been acting up.

could be a mild eye infection. they are very contagious. the best thing i know of breastmilk, a few drops right into the eye(you would need to do this every few hours if his had it a week already). If you aren't nursing you can put a bag of chamomile tea of the eye. feel good
