I never liked avocado until I tried Alissa's guacamole. I love it. I have seen recipes for chocolate mousse using avocado, also, which leads me to my question...

Can I use avocado in a fruit smoothie? Will it taste funny,or just make it creamier? I have an avocado I HAVE to use today....

Thanks...

Ellen

I just made the most yummy green smoothie today.

some 100% cranberry juice for tartness
1 small/medium cantaloup
1 granny smith apple
a bunch of spinach/parsley (or any greens you have laying around)

Blend above on high.

1 avocado

Blend in on low. Stir in 1 Tbsp of flaxseed oil.

If you want a really healthy green smoothie, look up Ann Wigmore and try her Energy Soup.

I make this every day. I use pineapple juice as the base and that with the apple, banana, avocado, parsley, (cilantro too if desired) and spinach makes a totally yummy, light but creamy refeshing "shake". It has the consistency of a shake when the banana and avocado are used. I've even had it semi frozen like a shake. Yum.

Sometimes if I don't have an avocado, it has the same flavour, but the texture is not as creamy and something about it is just sharper. Same with the banana. They both add to the creaminess and smoothness.

I seem to recall reading that to get the max benifit from the greens you should minimize the fats in the smoothie.
Can anyone either back me up or contradict me on that.
