My sister will be giving birth any day now (I can't wait!) and I would like to make her a raw dish soon after she gives birth. I was wondering if there are any foods that are better than others to help her recover?

Thanks all!

Anyone know??

Raspberry leaf is probably good but what about foods?

I don't know but I can tell you that I was sure enjoying the fresh fruit after my last baby. A friend of mine brought me a big basket of fruit and it was a lifesaver. The nurse kept asking me if I wanted to order food. She was starting to get concerned.

Another friend brought me some mejdool dates and raw almonds. I would take the pit out and stick a couple of almonds in the dates. It was so good and really gave me the calories I needed after going through birth. I also brought some date/walnut balls with me.

Without these I don't think I would have made it.

I second the fruit, and fruit smoothies especially.

After I gave birth the nurses tried to get me to eat sandwiches, etc since I hadn't eaten. Wrong. This was 7 years ago, before even a vegetarian but I did not want my bowels going into overdrive with food.

Can you imagine the pain of going #2 after you've been stictched up orstretched out from giving birth.

So light, watery fruit is going to be the best bet. Throw some greens in the smoothie for milk production.

Yeah, I would say some fresh fruit too, with a little fresh greens and you could do some smoothies!

I didn't eat much at all after giving birth. For one thing I was too exhausted to eat. For another, the baby never stopped crying or feeding. She was doing one thing or the other. I'd brought carrots and celery to the hospital and also some chocolate. I'd held off on the chocolate throughout the pregnancy and wanted to have some after. I remember dragging that IV along behind me and having to really stretch to reach the chocolate. I drank tons of ice water too.
