Hey everyone!
I was wondering where you think the most raw food-friendly area is in the United States. In other words, where are the most resources available for the raw foodist?

my first guess would be san francisco
luckily i'm moving there soon :)
second guess, san diego...where I'm moving from :)

Hey Boz glad to see you on the board. Maybe someday I will get over to California and see what all the fuss is about.

I don't know where - some where between here and there is? But the last time I went to Santa Monica area in California. I went to juliano's raw resturant, and the Had the rare opportuniy of hooking up with Rawtruth in long beach and she took me to A RAW resturant in fountain square called AuLAc - (it was so awesome) then back to Santa Monica for dinner at a place called Rawvoultion another RAW resturant. Guess how many raw resturants are around where I live? You give? "0" that's how many. PLus just the whole atmosphere/ vibe out there is awesome. :D

I would say san francisco, because it is full of lovely, alternative lifestyle supporters and understanding people. It is also pretty close to the central valley which is a hub of agriculture, but not neccessarily understanding.

The only major city I've been to as a raw person is NYC, and I would say it's extremely raw-friendly.
It has: farmer's markets, access to community-supported farms, raw events and classes, organic food coops, at least two raw-food-only stores (that I know of) that sell hard-to-find things like truly raw cashews/olives/almond butter etc., and about ten raw restaurants. Also, in the last year or so, I've noticed several vegan restaurants that have started to offer a significant number of raw items on their daily menus, making it really easy for raw people to go out and enjoy a meal with their cooked friends.
There's also this one guy who offers weekly foraging trips into Central and Prospect Park where you can learn to identify and pick wild edibles.

-What city doesn't have fresh produce and good people! Ha! ha! You ARE what you GIVE! :)
-But seriously: California. Of course, I love Florida...but I'm biased.

I grew up in San Diego but have been in Manchester, England for 13 years and it's a raw wasteland--such a bummer!

There are a lot of places that you can eat and find raw goods in in the ATL. Shoot me an email and I can tell you the places if you like. I live in Minneapolis now but, when I visit my daughter which will be next month some time she always has a lot of places and things for us to do Raw oriented. :D

hey guys
to my knowledge(limited by the way!) I am yet to come across a RAW restaraunt in the whole country(Ireland!) I would love to see one here, perhaps there is and I dont know about it! I get so jealous when I hear people in New York e.t.c saying that they eat out RAW! this must be a lovely experience! My only experience of eating out is asking a local restaraunt for a salad off the menu and to replace the bacon with pineapple and sweetcorn and they fried them to my horror!!! so its gonna take a while for it to catch on!

I guess this depends on your idea of raw.
I would say anywhere you can wild forage without the fear of pestisides being used.
where you can grow your own fruits and veggies, without fear of all the bugs getting to them
where you can have a mild enough climate to grow a long time
where you have enough cultural diversity to explore the raw foods of many nations
where you can have access to organic farmer's markets, and an international airport, so you can have food flown in (to stores ) around you
where there are knowledgable raw chefs.
so that is where I live, near Seattle but still in the mountains in Washington State.

The raw movement in Santa Monica is incredible. It is there that I met raw foodist for the first time. As far as I know, raw is not as well-known in the Bay Area compared to Santa Monica. I'm not sure about San Francisco city though.
From personal experience I would have to say NYC, several raw food restaurants, vegan and or vegetarian cafes everywhere, tons of markets that sell organic produce, countless juice bars and of course my favorite place, Pure Food & Wine!
......although San Fran sounds awesome, we are heading to Cali in April of 07 and looking forward to a few days in San Fran!

I haven't tried a durian yet, I think I'll be on the look-out for that next stop at the Whole Foods Market. I'm curious about this onion custard thing LOL

Thats why I asked!
I've never had it before and I need a durian experiment partner. Im so scared cause I've heard both good and bad things about the taste and totally bad things about the smell. I'm just afraid to do it alone and you live be me :)

Yeah I wish I could stop in more, but I'm in school 10-11 hours per day. :(
I only come on at night while I am inhaling my salad so I can start my work right after :)
You should definitely come to California! Its beautiful and there are so many places to visit and try out. Come visit me in SF :)

Well I must say Los Angeles County which includes Santa Monica, Hollywood, Beverly Hills and all of those trendy places like Altadena which is above Pasadena. This is such a wonderful place to live. Don't believe the bad hype. We haven't had an earthquake in years. We have great farm land PLUS>..............
