Man this chick is really getting to business here. Does anyone know the exchange rate? I'm just curious how much one of these things would cost in American dough.

oh boy...that looks good. Has anyone read "Naked Chocolate?"

I've made my own raw chocolate for years using coconut oil and cacao, but I'll bet it's much better using cacao butter instead of coconut oil...and more stable too in warmth.

I've been tempted to order some of these because I've just got to try them! They really look good and while my own raw fudge and chocolate are really good this would be such fun to try. I've got the book "Naked Chocolate" and there are some recipes that I've been wanting to try but haven't yet. Enough to satisfy the chocolate lover in me!

It is $8.18
Shazzie charges in pounds sterling and the conversion rate is higher than you have calculated. You may have converted into euros

I bought cacao butter from Shazzie and use it to make chocolate. I made some yesterday and was on the phone to my friend in Tampa and she claimed that I was hyper and she was putting it down to the chocolate. I had not noticed a change but she did.

Luckily for us this is the one of only a few things "made" in the UK so the price of this is not bad at all. I'm really tempted to buy some although I'm not sure due to the caffeine and I have a feeling in this such hot temperature that it would probably melt in the post!

Oh my are you serious? I converted from Euros to American dollars. That is ridiculously high for 2 ounces.

I've had problems molding chocolate though. I don't know if it was the molds or what but I could never get it to harden.

I used cocoa butter, cocoa (too cheap to use the cacao) and agave. I'd freeze the molds forever, but it just turned into dense fudge, not hard chocolate.

I could not figure out where I went wrong but the fudge was pretty good!

Also I had to melt the cocoa butter. I am assuming that is what Shazzie had to do as well - otherwise you'd have really grainy chocolate.

I'll be seeing Anglea Stokes (from the UK, http://www.rawreform.com ) in about a week. Hmmmmm, I wonder if she brought any of Shazzies chocolate bars with her????

But you are right, they do look good!!!!

Helen - why don't you email Angela if she is still currently in the UK?? I attended a raw food event on 15th July with Angela, Kate Wood and Matt Monarch and they were all great! Very friendly and I'm sure Angela would help if she could by bringing some choccie over.

I've never met Shazzie, but she comes across to me as being a nice, down-to-earth person (for example, I own her book, 'Detox Your World', and I enjoyed her interview on RawVeganRadio etc.).

However, the degree to which raw-foodists are charged WAAAAAY over the odds in the UK has always concerned me, and Shazzie is evidently no exception to this rule, if you look at the prices on her website. What a pity that people feel the need to charge so much, when the potential customers of raw vegan foods are, by-and-large, rather well-meaning and sincere individuals. As I mentioned in another recent discussion, I live in the UK and I KNOW the economics of buying from the USA, paying shipping, and customs charges and this STILL often works out very significantly cheaper for me than buying within the UK. Therefore, I do not feel it is valid to justify high prices in the UK on the basis of the aforementioned variables. Note that I am not aiming this entire argument at Shazzie - far from it. In fairness, with specific regard to the chocolate bar range Shazzie is offering, there may be a good deal of justification, on account of labour etc. But on a broader level, UK raw-foodist products are overpriced.

It also concerns me whenever I see chocolate being promoted as a health food. Just because something has a good magnesium content and a high antioxidant status does NOT make it a health food! David Wolfe is another proponent of chocolate, which, again, seems totally at odds with the broader message he claims to promote - great health from natural foods.

I'm not saying no one should eat chocolate as a treat, I'm simply pointing out that it is overrated, overpriced, and should not, IMHO, be promoted as a healthy substance. It's like saying a car is a healthy contraption because it stops you getting sore feet and keeps the rain off your head (both of which it does excellently). However, it also pollutes the planet to a frightening extent, and tends to dramatically shorten the lives of anyone unfortunate to be involved in a collision with it (thousands of such cases occur daily, of course). Yet, literally millions of people, the world over, are addicted to their cars. Not a particulalrly brilliant analogy, I grant you (hey, it is 5am here in the UK, as I type this!), but I'm sure you see my point.

Chocolate has certain beneficial elements but it also has many detrimental elements, not least due to the fact that it is frequently impure, is potentially-addictive and is a stimulant.

If I had £5.59 to spend on a health-promoting food, I'd be buying greens or fruit but if that makes me strange then so be it! ;)

I live in a raw hinterland here in Manchester so Shazzie's website and products have been a godsend. I couldn't get a saladacco for love nor money anywhere else and they threw in a generous sample of raw cocoa powder that was heavenly. I recommend her "Detox Delights" recipe book as well as "Detox Your World" and hope you are able to get that chocolate some way! The dollar is very week against the pound (thanks Dubya) so you're probably going to find it on the expensive side to order anything from here.

Good luck,
Lyn

I have been buying a lot of stuf from them as well and last week they sent me a gift of a magnetic therapy Eye Mask.
It is always nice to get pressies.
