firstly, I know the real purpose of fasting is to cleanse the body. However, my main reason for fasting is to lose weight. Can I drink 0 calorie diet sodas with no sugar when on this fast along with the daily recommended amount of water? diet soda gives me a bit more energy than just water

You can do whatever you want, but soda is horrible for you whether you're on a fast or not. The purpose of a fast is to cleanse. Drinking soda defeats that purpose.

I'm sorry but if you are really into the weightloss aspect than why don't you just fast on the diet soda????

No sugar???? Diet sodas contain aspartame or the like which is highly toxic [chemical] so choose your battles wisely. That would be my opinion.

I know it's for cleansing. But I find it very hard to just have water, I have done a just water diet for 2 days but became very weak and drained and had to end it early. I really want to do this fast but i'm scared the same thing will happen. Tomorrow will be the second day of my fast and suprisingly i'm feeling much better than my first day of a previous fast..I think this may be because of the diet soda?

It's totally up to you and what you feel comfortable with.
But, what do you know about your soda? other than what it tells you on the can? If it has no sugar, why does it have a sweet taste to it? Does your body recognize what form of food is coming out of that can?
Your right you can loose weight when fasting, but also you want your body to be free of chemicals so that it can shed quicker and not be confussed or get dehydrated by the soda and the carbonation just to mention a few things.
Your body would love you more if you were to drink fruit juices that you made your self verses and from a processing company.
Again it's totally up to you ;)

If you don't want to do just water, how about doing a juice "fast" instead of trying to incorporate soda. Do you have a juicer of any type or at least a blender?

You could even eat strictly fruit and you'd lose weight. As everyone before mentioned, you can drink whatever you want, but I highly doubt anyone on this type of forum is going to encourage the diet soda.

I dont mean to sound abrupt, actually I do here.......

 That's fasting program you just described has been done by many but it's not called fasting. That's was my menu for many years to fuel my anorexia --That or 7 cups of Starbucks coffee so here is what I want to say to you.........

:) IF you decide to fast with water and then feed it with a chemical called diet soda, you are putting your body in a spiraling downward in health position..........b/c just when your body thinks it's gettinga chance to heal, it is under attack by this foreign toxic matter and your body actually becomes weaker and organs become toxic. You will not feel the light airiness we all feel, you will not experience the high level of emotional liberation, you will not have a reconnected metabolism or bright plushy skin, you just can't with a highly toxic matter. I would at least invite you to read the fasting 101 thread that I will bump up........

MY ULTIMATE CONCERN IS, THAT YOU WOULD FREELY OPENLY FLAT OUT SAY YOU'RE DOING THIS FOR THE WEIGHTLOSS....IN OTHER WORDS,YOUR UNDERLYING HEALTH,COMES LATER. THAT IS SOMETHING WORTH TALKING ABOUT HERE......I SENSE SOMETHIN MORE DEEPER.

you do what you wanna do. I posted the recipe for making a natural pepsi or soda last week. I will see if I can find it. Everytime I have drank a diet soda it has caused me to pass out. My doctor gave me a 5 page list of conditions diet sodas caused. there was some horrible stuff on that list. I wish you the best on your fast.

oKAY, I'M BACK.

Sorry folks, this just gets me emotional b/c of my past experience with anorexia and diet soda and others I have seen in group therapy before who have endured the side effects.

I would hope Bahbareh, that you would at least investigate all options......

like RAwkinlocs suggested: juices, fruits or smoothies. you have so many options here.

I know it's tempting to just fast for the purpose of weightloss but in actuality, weightloss is a perk to cleansing which fsting does but also healing, repairing etc. Getting your body functions/systems rejuventaed so that when you do go back to eating (b/c after fasting we will have to eat) that your body will burn and churn efficiently.............imagine that! :)

I say no, for these reasons:

1) Fasting as a form of weight loss is a really, really bad idea.
2) Too much carbonation will disrupt the environment of the stomach.
3) Artificial sweeteners will fool your body into thinking it is NOT on a fast, when it really is.
4) 3) is going to be a problem once you start eating again.
5) Diet soda has been linked to weight gain, not weight loss:

Adverse reactions and side effects of aspartame include:

Eye
blindness in one or both eyes
decreased vision and/or other eye problems such as: blurring, bright flashes, squiggly lines, tunnel vision, decreased night vision
pain in one or both eyes
decreased tears
trouble with contact lenses
bulging eyes

Ear
tinnitus - ringing or buzzing sound
severe intolerance of noise
marked hearing impairment

Neurologic
epileptic seizures
headaches, migraines and some severe
dizziness, unsteadiness, both
confusion, memory loss, both
severe drowsiness and sleepiness
paresthesia or numbness of the limbs
severe slurring of speech
severe hyperactivity and restless legs
atypical facial pain
severe tremors

Psychological/Psychiatric
severe depression
irritability
aggression
anxiety
personality changes
insomnia
phobias

Chest
palpitations, tachycardia
shortness of breath
recent high blood pressure

Gastrointestinal
nausea
diarrhea, sometimes with blood in stools
abdominal pain
pain when swallowing

Skin and Allergies
itching without a rash
lip and mouth reactions
hives
aggravated respiratory allergies such as asthma

Endocrine and Metabolic
loss of control of diabetes
menstrual changes
marked thinning or loss of hair
marked weight loss
gradual weight gain
aggravated low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
severe PMS

Other
frequency of voiding and burning during urination
excessive thirst, fluid retention, leg swelling, and bloating
increased susceptibility to infection

Additional Symptoms of Aspartame Toxicity include the most critical symptoms of all
death
irreversible brain damage
birth defects, including mental retardation
peptic ulcers
aspartame addiction and increased craving for sweets
hyperactivity in children
severe depression
aggressive behavior
suicidal tendencies

Aspartame may trigger, mimic, or cause the following illnesses:
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Epstein-Barr
Post-Polio Syndrome
Lyme Disease
Grave’s Disease
Meniere’s Disease
Alzheimer’s Disease
ALS
Epilepsy
Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
EMS
Hypothyroidism
Mercury sensitivity from Amalgam fillings
Fibromyalgia
Lupus
non-Hodgkins
Lymphoma
Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD)

These are not allergies or sensitivities, but diseases and disease syndromes. Aspartame poisoning is commonly misdiagnosed because aspartame symptoms mock textbook ‘disease’ symptoms, such as Grave’s Disease.

Aspartame changes the ratio of amino acids in the blood, blocking or lowering the levels of serotonin, tyrosine, dopamine, norepinephrine, and adrenaline. Therefore, it is typical that aspartame symptoms cannot be detected in lab tests and on x-rays. Textbook disorders and diseases may actually be a toxic load as a result of aspartame poisoning.

Ever gone to the doctor with real, physical symptoms, but he/she can’t find the cause? Well, it’s probably your diet, your environment, or both.

Aspartame is the common denominator for over 92 different health symptoms at the root of modern disease.

Hey another great link!!!!
This is great fuel - I have a relative of mine who's a very detail/ analytical type person, and wants lots of detailed proof. So I 've been collecting so stuff for him. I was just at he's house last week and in his garage he has about hundred cases of diet pop.

Aspartame is used as an embalming fluid...mummies, dead people...it preserves them. When someone told me that...I stayed away from Diet Coke. But for the past few days I have been drinking regular coke because I get nauseated very easily after surgery. But do a juice fast!! It would be better.

Aspartame spikes your insulin justl ike sugar and then you'll store it as fat.

in the interest of gentility, addictions of all kinds are difficult to handle at times...it you are interested in letting go of the diet soda...see if you can wean yourself off...maybe one less soda per day...also a juice fast is beneficial...as well as sun tea...weaning may be the option for you...treating your body peacefully...

Please take the advice given here. A diet soda fast isn't healthy for your body. Although neither is a water fast (in my opinion). Go for the juice fast option. After the first couple days, you don't feel hungry and have plenty of energy. If you don't like the taste of veggie juice (like me), go for all fruit juice. It's still better than depriving your body of essential nutrition or loading it up with chemicals.

If you would like to wean yourself off of soda, here's the way that worked for me: Drink your normal amount of soda but in a glass instead of a can. Fill the glass up 90% of the way then top it off with pure water (bottled. Not disgusting faucet water). Drink your soda like this for a week or so. You really won't notice the difference in the least since even restaurants dilute your soda alot more than this. After that week, slowly increase the amount of water in the glass. You'll still be drinking the same amount of liquid but it will be less and less soda. After a while, your glass will grow clearer until it's mostly water. If you get stuck at a certain point, don't worry about it. I stopped at 50/50 for about a month before finally taking the plunge to drinking all water. Now, I can go into a restaurant and drink a soda at full strength but not really have any desire to do so at home (even though there's a ton of it in the house for other people).

get natural mineral water and mix it with any fruit juice and you have "soda"

make sure it is natural mineral water the kind that says bottled at the source.

you can easily make orange soda
grape soda
even sprite with lemon and a little agave necter

So I would say hay go ahead and have your "soda" fast but do it this way and you will remain beautiful and healthy

much luv

Spiciful your honesty is freshing :)

You did. In my experience the worse the symptoms the worse the stuff is for one's body.
