 I know, it probably sounds like a really dumb questions. when you talk about cooked food, is there any difference between SAD or cooked vegetables? I'm asking because I'm high raw and most of the cooked that i have is vegetarian. Just checking.

Cooked is anything heated above 115 or whatever that magic number is. You can be vegan and eat cooked or eat the SAD and it'll definitely be cooked. If the food is altered in any way through heat then it is cooked.

For me, cooked = any food heated above 118 degrees

Cooked is anything processed, i.e. steamed, sautee'd, boiled.
However, with dehydrating you can adjust the temp and it doesn't go past the "cooked" limit, which I believe is 114 degrees F? Not sure on the exact temp.
Raw is as nature delivered it, w/the exception of dehydrating and that is simply removing the moisture.
No question is dumb - that's how you learn.
yesss, a really dumb question! i looooooooooove dumb questions, i like to answer them and ask them myself all the time :)
cooked is just cooked, so cooked vegetables are still cooked and not raw.
however, there still is a (major) difference in the quality of different cooked foods. cooked vegetables are of course much healthier than coca cola and hamburgers and therefore more preferable. even when eating cooked food, you can still make healthy choices. and even with raw food, you can still make unhealthy choices if you don't listen to your body and to your common sense.
of course everyone here would say a 100% raw diet is the best... when you cook those vegetables, lots of nutrients will be destroyed, thus making them less nutricious... and also pretty lifeless energy wise. so why cook them in the first place? but guess you'd already knew that, so i won't mention it ;)

Just wanted to make sure, tho. I can't wait for my dehydrator to arrive so i can start uncooking some of my veg burger recipes.
one more question: The dried beans you buy in the supermarket, cooked? Can you get raw dried beans? I'm looking specifically for lentils and chickpeas...probably pintos, also.

I've been able to sprout plain old dried chickpeas and lentils from the grocery store (the chickpeas were from Walmart even!), which means they are still alive (not cooked).

Can you even eat pinto beans raw (sprouted)? I thought there were only a few that you could. Garbanzo, lentils, adzuki and mung if I remember right. I think there are toxins in most raw beans, something like that.

I've sprouted garbanzo beans/chickpeas that were dried, storebought in a bag at a generic supermarket.

I have sprouted pinto beans, but didn't much care for them. I enjoy chick peas, mung beans, sunnys, wheatberry, buckwheat, & barley.
