I have read that watermelon is supposed to be cleansing and move through you pretty fast. I have found when I eat it for breakfast (like 1/4 of a melon), I am very full for many hours - until dinner.

Does anyone else have this experience with melons?

Maybe 1/4 of a melon is too much at one time.......

I do this with watermelon too! I never thought of it as a negative thing. I like that fact. I sometimes eat a half of one for breakfast and sometimes I will just eat a watermelon all day till its gone. yummy!

I also find watermelon keeps me going for hours. I am buying huge ones these days that come from Greece and I can just barely lift them. I like them because even though they are not organic they have lots of black seeds so I assume that they are not GM.

I always cut a Watermelon in half and sick the knife in it to mark it as my half. I will eat the whole thing. I don't have to drink water when I eat watermelon. And it does leave you quite full.

Veganman I just don't think you were ever a big eater, am I right? If you have to force it- don't do it. Our bodies have a set point and it sounds like yours is slim and georgous. So you handsome person, enjoy your journey and don't worry............

You guys are so wonderful and fast on the replies - talk about immediate gratification!

Lay-Lay - The hard part about the feeling for me is I am not interested in eating again for many hours and that means lack of nutrients/calories. If I was trying to lose weight, that might be a good thing. But I am not. Glad to hear it affects others that way. I just thought because it was melon it would move through me quicker.

SpicyFull - thanks for the positive thoughts ;) . You are right - never a big eater. I was able to put away 2 cups of cooked beans and 2 cups of brown rice without feeling too bad. However, at this point, I want to gain some weight. Trying to find foods that give me calories and also digest well. Right now, my shoulders and legs are getting thinner and my stomach gets poofy - not a great look  .

I want to eat, feel good after eating, be hungry again in a few hours, etc. Hoping that too much to ask.

That happens to me, but I think it's gas. I always have a lot of burps after I have watermelon lol.

I find that I can eat a considerable amount of watermelon when I need the hydration and well, to be honest, I can hardly stop eating it if it is a good one. That is the closest thing I get to an eating frenzy on Raw and then I spend a fair bit of time in the "Little Raw Persons Room" :p

Other melons are more sustaining but I can eat a whole one with no problem:) Also, honeydews leave me a lot faster than a cantalope.

I looked up watermelons a while ago on Nutridiary.. a whole watermelon contains about 1400 calories!! Not many fruits can compare with those calories! That probably explains why you would feel full quickly.

I'm known for going through an entire seedless watermelon in a day... especially during the summer. Sometimes that's all I eat.

Just enjoy :D

I love watermelon so much! Especially here lately. I usually buy one a week or so, cut it up, and store it in the fridge in glass containers. Then I just pull some out and take it to work each day! Terribly yummy!

I love melons. I find that when I eat watermelon I eat it in larger amounts and it fills me up very fast. This is because it hydrates my body so well and fills me up with good, pure water. I feel very full for about an hour or two aftera large amount, but never over 2 hours. After I've passed the unabsorbed water, I feel normal again.

I make cantalope "juice" in the morning. I blend the seeds with water, strain, blend that with the meat of the fruit, add a little cardamon and I'm good until lunch. Sometimes I only use half the fruit and I can go for hours. This recipe is from Renee's book called . . . I'll look it up and post it later.

Oh yeah, have you tried watermelon with ginger? It's kinda good.

sport, the seedless ones aren't GM. Remember for years we have been hybridizing fruits and veggies to get traits that we want. There's actually very little GM stuff in the fresh produce department, where GM stuff is rampant is in soy, corn, and canola products.

However, I am envying those old fashioned watermelons with the seeds - I think they're tastier than some of the seedless.

OH

So watermelons without seeds are cross bred to get them to grow without seeds.

What is GM then?

The only pain I have found in the past with water melons are the randomly scattered seeds everywhere which is why I usually juice them..maybe i should try eating them whole again..
