I would like to have a GREAT simple & short answer when in a social setting to that question "why do you only eat raw food".

I have so much information inside me I actually become speechless because I dont want to miss anything out. I want to inform but not bore. I want to come off NOT sounding like some nut case - LOL!!!

I usually revert to the "food allergies" statement. But I dont want to hide I want to celebrate this great gift and share it. :o

I know RP will have a few wise words. . . . . We bow and await your wisdom - Lol!

Cheers

i usually just say for health reasons, but then again I'm not usually asked why i eat raw. i usually get why am i vegan or vegetarian. i usually don't go much beyond that. it seems to satisfy most people.

I have dietary restrictions is a easy one.

I usually just write down www.rawfoodtalk.com and hand it to them and tell them to check it out for themselve. They usually apply ok, I will!

That is my favorite one.

Because my body loves it.

And if they need further explanation, I simply tell them that after 3 weeks of eating raw, the chronic pain that I've had for more than 2 years has almost disappeared.

:D

I usually don't get asked this anymore. Maybe I need to get out and meet new people. =)

I think if they asked, I'd say, "because I like it." =)

People usually ask me that when they find out, sometimes they'll say, 'but you don't need to lose weight, why are you doing this?' I tell them that I wasn't feeling very good and I'm doing this to get my health back, especially my energy.

I'm exacly the same way! I do the whole "food allergy" thing though. It's hard to explain to teens it seems...

I usually just say that my body cannot tolerate anything processed or cooked. I have fibromayalgia pain, depression & chronic fatigue when I don't eat Raw.

Then-they see me full of energy-& they just want to know more. I send them to this site. I have *turned on * a LOT of friends on to Raw. :)

Lana

PS. They LOVE to ask about my green smoothies that I drink in my shop.

Okay, you can bow now!! I'm here.

You gize crack me up!!!

well, you know, it really depends on the situation, pretty much all of my friends know I eat raw food, but every once in a while, I'll meet someone I haven't seen in a long time, in fact that happened last night, I went to a group that hadn't seen me in a while, and because I was wearing a light summer dress,I was pretty well exposed, (I used to just cover up with a big cape, and I looked like a blob--pagan event type thingy)

so they could REALLY see that I had lost a bunch of weight, questions came up, and people asked what I was doing.

I just said I was eating fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts seeds and sprouted grains, I didn't even mention raw food or anything.

someone said, sounds like you are eating healthy, and I said that I was indeed.

A couple of people asked about milk, and chicken or fish, to someone else replied, "she's been a vegetarian for many years now." before I could even open my mouth. LOL

so that was about it, a few people asked how I stayed on ONLY fresh fruits and veggies every day, didn't I get bored with nothing to eat, and I started to tell them, that I have pizza, rawviolies, ice cream, brownies, fresh peaches, strawberries and cream, nut milk shakes, etc, and all they could do was to say, "WOW, doesn't sound boring to me." we all laughed, and that was about it.

So, I didn't even really mention the raw part of it.

When I get to a consistent 100% I guess I'll just tell detractors I don't COOK.

Then I share with them like a plan to share with others the abundant life benefits. :D

I plan on answering their question with a question.
"Why do you eat processed, bleached, no nutrition COOKED foods?" :D
I mean, why do WE have to explain our eating habits? They surely don't question or explain eating a dead carcass.

Simple. Food allergies. Diabetes. First, the allergies eliminated some of what I had been eating. I then discovered what I wound up eating was mostly raw. Sure I could eat cooked carrots or celery. But I actually prefer them raw. And due to the diabetes, I have to watch my carb count. I can eat twice as many cooked vegetables (by measuring cup measure) as I can cooked ones.

So far I've only told my boyfriend and my mum and simply said I wanted to eat healthy and natural foods.

I don't like to draw attention to being raw, and I hate being the centre of attention and put in a position to defend my choices. I don't mind in a more private setting if someone is expressing *interest*, but to simply give ammunition to a bunch of potential hecklers... well, yawn. It's really my own business what I eat and why.

That having been said, when circumstances are such that I feel an answer is necessary, or I do feel like talking about it, I tell them honestly that I am careful about what I eat because the wrong things a) cause mouth sores, and b) make me fatigued and irritable.

Most of the time I just say, "I'd rather have fruit today" and leave it at that.

i say because its healthier and i want to.

its strange how people expect others to justify why they eat a particular way when they freely eat what they wish.

best wishes

This is good to read, because I'm raw for 2 months now and since it is summer holidays here in The Netherlands (greetings to you Dutchie), I haven't been in social situations much. Well, my family and very close people know that I am doing this, but they have been knowing me for a long time and are quite into healthy eating themselves, so no strange reactions there. And the one time I had this barbecue thing at friends, I was just new to raw foods, and mailed beforehand that I would take my own food because I was on a special diet. And stupidly enough just caved in when I was there and ate 'normally'. But that was then and I wouldn't do it ever again, I wasn't sure about the whole raw food thing yet.

In two weeks, I will be having a 'major' social event, because I'm going to France for two weeks and eat in a group. In the past it never had been a problem when I was a vegetarian, they always take in consideration when people have different diets and I could still eat along. But now I just want to eat fruits and some vegetables with NO dressing and made to MY taste exactly, so I'm going to say that I'm making the things myself (there's not much to make when eating some oranges). And figured that of course I'm going to be asked questions when I don't eat normal breakfast and lunch with them (breads, cheeses etc etc) and only eat my salad or fruit for dinner (while they are going to have a 3 course meal...). I cannot (and don't want to) make myself invisible or something. So I was already thinking about what I was going to say, something like: 'Because I like eating this way, it gives me a lot of energy,' and practice a bit before I go. I don't want to make an issue of it or have to explain it to people (only if they are really, REALLY interested, but no, don't really want to go there if you know what I mean). I just want to be relaxed about it. Nowadays, people don't even blink if you say you are a vegetarian, because lots of people are. Now the time has come for raw foods to become normal... hehe...

'Because I deserve it'... It could be made into a tv spot like l'Oréal's 'Because I'm worth it'...

Thnx for this thread!

Not yet 100% raw, but it will be. Step by step
I'll will work to it. But today I had one warm meal.
It's at the moment so warm here, that I must
find some recepts who are spicy and salty.
I think that today Iám 70% raw.
At this moment I'am eating yummie cherries.
They are so good. And later I'll will make a nice smoothie
of strawberrie, I can't wait for that. :p
