View Full Version : Cravings?

I've been through an array of cravings. At first (back 6+ years ago) it was the normal "I would like a cookie" once in a while. Then as we discovered my food sensativities it formed into wanting anything and everything that had wheat, corn, ect. in it. Then it was craving ANYTHING cooked (veggies, and rice mainly). After getting over those cravings 5 months ago I was fine on raw. Soon my body began craving raw and I think I've FINALLY figured out why. Lately I've been craving food...any food (raw of course). So I shovel it in without tasting and enjoying it :(. The thing that clicked was when I wanted food today...I wasn't craving the food itself and it wasn't out of habbit...sadly I think I'm craving the pesticides and sulfites. It's hard to explain, but I actually crave the chemicals! Anyone else have this or am I the only weird one? I'm not sure how to get off them. I know, go organic...but it's like going cold turkey and giving up coffee for someone who's had 2 pots or so a day. I crave those chemicals SO bad and it's extremely hard for me to get off. Dumb industry!!

That's really interesting... I never thought of addictions going all the way down to the chemicals. I have about 75% organic in this house and am wondering too what would it be like to give up all non-organic produce. How would it affect us? Would it be as bad as all that?

Should we try it? :D

Could it be you were craving nutrition and how it made your body feel and just not the taste?

Nah, it's hard to explain, but I can tell that I'm actually craving the chemicals...frustrating! Why can't a fruit be a piece of fruit?

Opinion:

-Listen: You GOTS to be conscious girl! It's all about not WANTING the stuff YOU think is bad.....not just depriving yourself of them! LOL. THAT is the true victory. It's all about deciding what YOU think is good and bad.....and pursuing the good - while eschewing the bad!....er.....not chewing the bad........heh..heh....

-The realistic part is that what people who are having craving problems COULD do.....is simply mono-eat the item they are craving for 1 week straight......and see how it REALLY makes them feel.

-If they are honest......then they will be motivated to never eat that food again. And a deep motivation wins over a shaky discipline ANY day of the week (in my opinion)! :)

-You will succeed - because you are being honest with how you feel.

Great ADVICE!
Not only did I enjoy the message but the play on the eschewing/chewing totally cracked me up :) I just LOVE Words and word play hehe
also I have a very good new mantra to use: Thanks for your wisdom DZM!
It is SOO the truth!

Ha! Thanks Gracie! I LOVE to actually be quoted! LOL. :)

-I pray (I'm a religious man) that folks would either eat crap very consciously and LEARN how bad it is (without diluting it....or judging themselves)......or eat very healthy and appreciate the benefits.

-But more people either eat very healthy and crave bad things........or eat a few bad things..........and feel guilty and terrible. They neither get the pleasure from eating healthy.....OR the pleasure from eating bad! :)

-Going either side of the fence....and they would find happiness! :)

-Just my opinion.

I am so excited I just found a local organic farm that does co-op drop offs near me every single week. I can't wait to place my first order~ yeah!

It is hard but sometimes you simply can't buy everything organic all the time. In my case, there is some organic stuff in stores here but if I only ate organic, I wouldn't have a very varied diet. I love organic and I try to get as much as I can but if I really want some raspberries and they simply aren't available organic, I'm going to buy the sprayed ones. Sad, but true. I need and want variety. I wish I had my own garden but I live in an upstairs apartment and can't do more than a few pots so until we get a house with a yeard, I'm at the stores' mercy. Try to do mostly organic but don't freak too much about it. Now, if you actually desire and crave the disgusting pesticides on fruits and veggies, that is a big problem in and of itself. I can't imagine wanting something so disgusting. Does it taste better to you? Are you actually not buying organic when you can so that you can "enjoy" chemicals? Or are you just unable to get all organic? I too get very upset about our society and how we see it fit to spray our precious foods with toxins just to kill bugs. There are so many easy and natural ways to keep bugs away and really, the bugs deserve fruits as well. Sometimes it is all they eat and without some food for bugs to eat, we'd lose those beneficial insects that we need and the world would be a pretty unbalanced place. It is already becoming as much. We can share our food with the creatures of the earth and still get our fill without poisons. I wish that the people in control of our produce would see the big picture and understand this better.

I'm not sure if you're talking about me, but to me it seems like it. Just wanted to clear it up...I don't eat cooked, SAD, or even "bad" raw foods. The amount of organic that is available is limited and expensive so I can't get all that I want. Non organic is the only "bad" i'm dealing with at the moment.

As I said, it's hard to explain this desire that I have for these non-organic foods. Maybe it is the nutrition since you don't get nearly as much as you do raw? Not sure, but to me if feels like a craving for the actual chemicals. No, it doesn't taste better. I barely taste them, but still eat in anyway. I do have organic produce available, but it's expensive and not a large selection.

Same here, I wish everything was available organic. Anyway, I hope you figure this out soon and find a sollution.
