We stopped at an Asian market and found these lil tresures
They were called Saba bananas they are squarish and about 4 inches long and 2 inches thick.
I cut one open and they are not ripe yet so I will let the others ripen a few days it tasted like cukcumber.
Has any one ever tryed them if so please let me know if they are eating or cooking ones?

My neighbor used to have them. Nobody in the neighborhood liked them but me so he gave most of them to me. His wife made banana nut bread out of them, but I just ate them. I don't remember them tasting like cucumbers, hmm. I liked them. Haven't had them since I was probably 8 or 9 years old.

I've had them before. They take a little longer to ripen than common bananas and there is also a red variety that looks just like those. Both are sweeter and have a slightly more 'pungent' taste than common ones. they are also a bit stickier and more firm. I like them a great deal. They taste more exotic to me.

awww, what cute bananas. I've never seen them, let us know how you like them! :)
Those look like what we used to call burro bananas when I was growing up. If they are the same thing, I do recall what I thought of as slightly green or grassy note underneath the sweet. I liked them and just ate them straight up. As I recall, they are more starchy than the big variety. I also recall that we used to let them ripen until the skin was kind of black, so that they would be sweeter.

I've never had them and have never seen those type but they're adorable :D
I've purchased them twice, taken a bite both times, and then thrown it out the window both times!
I told this to my roommates that are from Guam lastnight, and they made fun of me because they said they are supposed to be eaten cooked. They made some today by boiling it, then adding butter and brown sugar to it.
I'd stick to good old normal bananas that we know taste good :)

Coriander74, I LOVE THAT SHIRT.
Dragggon wore it to court, when he got his divorce from his EX---LOL (UNDER HIS OTHER SHIRT)
he often wears it to fairs and such, always gets lots of comments, it was a gift from a friend of ours.
I just now saw that pic, didn't know he'd changed his avatar, I've had the same avatar forever, he changes his all the time. LOL

I think I have tried that banana before, my friend got some, and they were unripe in the beggining, but some time passed by and then we tried them again and they were alot sweeter, but not like the normal banana. I could have sworn that they were bad, but we opened it up, and it tasted fine.

I just bought some small yellow banana's, about 4 x 2.5, but they are different from these. I like them more than yellow banana's.
My market has a small RED banana's, has anyone tried these ?

Was gonna comment on the shirt too! AWESOME
Those lil banana were introduced to me by a Jamaican family that I knew and they are indeed used like potatoes. Must be 30 years ago but they made me a soup with these and although I wasn't all that impressed the kids loved it!

YEP, just tried these cute little fat bananas, they were sweet, and yet still firm that was nice, and very tasty, kind of had an orange or lemon taste too, very nice, very sweet and I think they would be a very good smoothie or ice cream banana, I like my banans not too ripe, I like them with only a few dark speckles on them, but these little cuties were delicious. mmmmmmmm
gonna' hafta buy mooooorrrrreeeee!!!

I'm glad y'all liked them! I saw them at the grocery store the other day beside the mangos. I decided I was going to wait until your verdict before buying them! My next trip there I'll be getting some! I think it's very cool that they have a citrus undertone to them... is undertone the right word?

YEP, Luna LIn, they were delicious, very very sweet and nice, but still firm, not mushy like the longer thinner regular ones we see all the time, with a citrussy undertone, kind of like a banana date custard with a bit of lemon, that is how I would describe them, yummmmmmy
