Red Tamarillos...any one tried it???

I just tried one this weekend for the first time. It kind of tasted very slightly like a very odd tomato. I hated the skin. I am going to try it with some other combinations to see what I come up with.

Have you tried it???

I tried it once, but it didn't really call to me. It was very tart! And I think I was expecting a tomato. Agree too the skin is very thick.

I tried them again last year as my parents in law have a couple of tamarillo trees and I found the taste so-so..... I loved the deep red color and was wondering how I could use that...
This year I LOVE them! Have 3 different kinds, red, yellow ( which are not so tart) and a smaller in between which is sweeter and tastes more like orange.
I never eat the skin as it is quite bitter, I cut them in half and scoop them out.
Make sure they are nice a ripe as they are less tart that way.
