can someone eat just fruit and be perfectly healthy? I was wondering how some ppl can be fine without the nutrients in veggies and things like vaitamin B12, B6, calcium, protein, etc...
I'm having a hard time eating my veggies, but I don't want to get sick if I don't, any help?
thankx

I don't know first hand as I'm just starting on the raw diet but a lot people think we should only eat fruit as human DNA is 99% that of chimpanzees who are frugivores. These people believe we should eat for our species.

In regards to B12, once again I'm not an expert, but I've read accounts of healthy raw foodists who have been on the diet for 30 years or more and never taken a B12 supplement.

Here's a link to one such person and his view on B12.

are you suggesting fruit doesn't have these nutrients? :)

While I believe that one should eat some veggies and dark leafy greens for variety and more chlorophyl and an easier source of amino acids, fruit does contain all these nutrients, just in different amounts. Everything that exists is composed of the same some odd amount of elements but what makes them different is which elements there are more or less of. I think you would do well to eat some amounts of veggies but if you absolutely dislike them, maybe you don't really need them. Eat a large variety of fruit though.

I eat mainly fruit but I have noticed a ton more energy after having leafy green vegetables. These kinds of vegetables will provide much more calcium than fruit also, but fruit is obviously also an important part of the diet.

I would be grateful if someone would please educate me on where this obsession with eating fruit comes from.

Cory indicated that chimps are fruitarian - but they are not.

"Chimpanzees are primarily frugivorous, but also include leaves, seeds, flowers, pith, insects, and vertebrates in their diet (Ghiglieri, 1984; Goodall, 1968; Reynolds & Reynolds, 1965; Hladik, 1977; Jones & Sabater Pi, 1971; Wrangham 1975, 1977; White & Wrangham, 1988). Chimpanzee diets are highly diverse, Wrangham (1977) estimated that adult males eat 60
different food items each month, and that their diet diversity was stable from month to month. One 'hundred forty plant foods were reported for chimpanzees at Gombe by Wrangham (1977) and another sixty-one identified from the observation files there. The number of plant species used by chimpanzees at Gombe is similar to the 141 plant foods recorded by Hiadik (1973) at Ippasa, Gabon, and the 205 recorded by Nishida (1974) at Mahale, Tanzania. The list of plant foods used by chimpanzees will probably continue to grow with further observations 1 and as new foods are added to the diet (Teleki, 1981). "

Thanks

Anyone interested: A reference with lots of corresponding info about fruit eating and humans (one of the draft chapters at that site): http://www.kaleidos.org.uk/PDF/Chapter%202%20Const.pdf

Alex: In relation to "I would be grateful if someone would please educate me on where this obsession with eating fruit comes from.", the answer is very simple. People are naturally drawn towards eating fruit, their perfect food. This is why many raw foodists spontaneously transition to fruit-based raw diet (example: me, my kids and my husband, and my many raw friends). It's not an obsession, it's an instinct. :)

Just my experience:

-I have eaten nothing but fruit for many years. This was a conscious and natural progression over several years - not a sudden discision or arduous discipline......and I'm the strongest and healthiest guy I know.

-I think each person should do the research.....then ask themselves what THEY think is the healthiest.....and go for it with joy and intelligence.

I personally believe that the higher mineral and chlorophyll of green leafy veggies are crucial to any healthy diet. Green inside is clean inside.

Ka Yun Yoon - what do you mean a problem with your blood temperature? I have a blood disorder which makes me consume B12, folate an diron 10 times faster than the average person - that is alot. I got BETTER when I become vegan and I have blood tests every year to prove it. You do not NEED meat! Your family are brain washed by the meat industry - tel them to do more thorough research.

Good luck.

Some scientists have introduced a fourth category called frugivore because humans and the anthropoids do not seem to fall into the other categories (herbivore, omnivoer or carnivore) when utilising the standard method of assessing an animal on terms of its anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. A frugivore as anthrapoids are classified means that the animals eats predominantly fruits (which in botanical terms includes nuts, seeds, berries etc) and green leafy vegetables. Monkeys and small apes will eat animal foods though not much and according to Schaller, in his book the "Ecology and Behaviour of the Mountain Gorilla" the primates he studies would go to great lengths to remove insects from their food.

I tried to include a table showing this but it would not work so check out http://www.alecburton.com/diet.htm for a table showing scientifically why humans are more likely to be frugivores.

I eat predominantly fruit, it was a natural progression from vegetarian, to vegan to raw vegan to fruit,

I eat
pineapple
mangos
oranges
plums
dates
apples
tomatoes
cucumbers
squash
nuts
seeds

and some herbs
on occasion I do eat
some carrots and
turnips, but only a little

maybe 1 turnip a month
and 1or 2 carrots a month

but I am about 90% fruitarian

I appreciate the info - thanks.

Are there any frugivores out there who track their morning urine pH??? and if so what is that pH??

Mr Mason you say you are the strongest person you know, may I ask your age please??

Not trying to give anyone a hard time, just looking for information.

I have read that the most important physiological and biochemical indicator of good health is the state of the blood - called the river of life. I can not believe that it is a mere Mother Nature coincidence that the hemoglobin molecule found in our blood and the chlorophyll molecule found in green plants only differs in structure by one single atom (magnesium in chlorophyll and iron in hemoglobin)!!!

I am embarking on 30 days of vegetables and vegetable juice only (raw of course). Will let you know how it turns out.

Take the best care

alex

latly my body has been really cold (and it's the middle of july!) :(
my fingers stay cold, and alot of places I go w/my husband (like a restraunt, cinama, etc...), I get extremly cold. but this has only begon to happen since I've been vegan. he tells me to eat plenty of honey, cinnamon, ginsing, and some other asian medical things I can't pronounce :D. It's really great that he thinks alot bout it on a vegan level, but sometimes he try to feed me milk or eggs that r hidden... >< it's kinda sweet, but I'm an aminal rights supporter, and he knos how I feel bout it, jus cares so much bout my health. any suggestions? some foods I should eat?

Hi there,

I'm also colder a lot of the time now that I'm a raw vegan. I've heard of this happening to other people as well. Dr Graham says that we shouldn't worry about it, that humans are meant to live in a warm climate. I just wear extra clothes. It also seems to be getting better. I think our bodies adjust after awhile.

Nora Lenz has a great list of optimal human foods on her website. Check it out: http://www.rawschool.com/bestrawfoods.htm

Best to you!

Its my take that the healthiest thing would be to eat nothing at all...that way the body is the most natural.

But diet is all about personal preferences. If you want to eat something, then eat it. If not, then not.

Ka-Yun, if you want to eat raw vegetables then you should do that. If you want to eat fruits only, then this is the way to go for you. Just ask yourself what you want for yourself, and then do it.

For me the best thing is to be a fruitarian..I only eat fruits, and its the best for me. I dont like veggies. After all when I can have fruit, why would I want veggies then. But thats just me. You will have to find out yourself whats best for you.

Just my two cents.

As for the nutrients, no matter if you eat raw veggies or fruits only, in any case you will get all the 'nutrients' to be at the peak of health.

When I first started out 100% raw I was eating mostly greens, but I can see with each days passing that I have been eating more fruit and less grains.
