Of our three grocery stores in town only one sells organic apples, oranges, and bananas. Here's what I paid tonight for these items:
30.89 for 11 apples.
15.14 for 10 oranges.
10.75 for four bunches of bananas.
9.38 for NON ORGANIC Grapes--2.35 lbs.
Living on an island can really stink sometimes. :(

I think you can eat oranges and bananas without being organic..........

Yeah, I agree with spicyfull, because you remove the peels of the oranges and bananas, in an effort to save like $20, you could purchase them as non-organic. But that is absolutely absurd how high those prices are. What are the prices like for conventional produce?

My mom used to live in Anchorage, she said it costs about twice as much to live there than anywhere else, because everything had to be shipped in, but you made twice as much money as anywhere else because of it, AND the mail is 1/10th the price. also she said it is the most beauitful scenery in the world.
I think Alaska must be fantastic to see.
so sorry that your produce costs so much.
I know that many places it is difficult to get fresh produce let alone organic,
that is one reason, I say, "I don't HAVE to eat raw food, I GET to eat raw food."
I wish I could send you some of our berries, they are coming out our ears. raspberries, and strawberries, we'll soon have blackberries too.
I would have thought they would all grow up there wild, like they do here in the mountains, plus the salmon berries, marion berries, huckleberries,
but I don't know exactly where Sitka is, so it may be too far North for it.
We're in the mountains of WA state.
