I couldn't think of a title lol.

But I was wondering what I need to prepare foodwise since I am having surgery next Friday to remove a benign tumor/growth from my lower back. I need to prepare somethings that are easy to eat since I am going to sleep most of the next week after my surgery. I have some soup recipes that I like, so I might keep some in my fridge so my mom can just put it into a bowl and I can have that. And also some salads and some cereal. But what else to ya'll suggest?

Greetings!
Here is something that's really easy to make (ahead) and just gobble up once hunger strikes.

RAINBOW WRAPS

Romaine lettuce leaves (the largest you can find; 4 or 5 per serving)
1 avocado (cubed)
1 green onion (cut in small pieces)
shredded carrot
shredded purple cabbage
Mango or pineapple salsa

Mix everything but the lettuce leaves in a small bowl with maybe the juice of 1/2 lemon and a bit of salt. This is the "filling" for your lettuce "taco". Top with salsa of your choosing.
*You can pretty much prepare everything ahead except for the avocado, which really needs to be sliced just prior to eating. These are REALLY satisfying------- oh, check out my thread on the easy sprouted sunflower salad.....so yummy!

Avocodoes cubed with chopped finely sundried tomatoes and finely chopped basil finely chopped and sprinkled over it with lime juice.
Now when i was in the hospital i had my husband bring me an avocado and they tried to get on me about the fat and i told them it was good fat not like what they were feeding the lady in the next bed which was a big white dumpling with meat, so please don't mess with what i'm eating.
Hope your surgery goes well, i know it will.

i second the portobella with avocado on top.

also, write a list of smoothie recipes you enjoy with the exact ingredients, so your mom or sister can make them for you. most people eat ice cream when they come out of the hospital, so here are 3 recipes I enjoy:

1) 1 banana, 1/2 cup blueberries, 1 cup papaya, agave, and a little water to help blend, but not water down

2) 1 banana, 1 cup strawberries, agave, a lil water

3) 1 banana, some pecans, agave, cinnamon, and a lil water

also, it may be easier for you to eat simple, so stock up with fresh fruits grapes, bananas, strawberries, peaches pineapple and whatever else you like

hope everything goes well with your surgery. :)

Wow, can't believe they said that!! Well, it's an outpatient thing, which I don't like. I had surgery 4 years ago to remove the same tumor and they sent me home about 2 hours after the surgery. It was the size of a grapefruit >_<
My dad was on-call and my mom was home alone with me, and I was bleeding profusely. I also don't remember 3 days that I slept on the couch and I have an amazing memory. It's a major surgery and I think that I should be in the hospital for a day or so since I am known to have not so great reactions to anesthesia.

Oh and thanks for the recipes! They all look great! I know my sister will make smoothies for me and I'll eat a lot of pineapple since it's supposed to help with pain.

something easy is my brownies

1 cup dates (pitted and not soaked)
1 cup walnuts
1/4 cup cacao powder

blend until it holds together, and then press into a pan then refridgerate, then you can place in a baggie in the freezer to keep, take out as much as you want, it can be eaten fresh, refridgerated or frozen.

If you're fine with eating soy products (miso and nama shoyu in this case), then this soup is very good: Mushroom Green Wilted Soup (http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13531)

Candy balls --just dates and nuts , process, roll in little balls, then roll in sesame seeds or cocounts or whatever.

Lettuce with tomato pepper dressing - - 1 tomato, 1/2 bellpepper, 1/2 lemon (juice), sea salt, little onion, 1 or 2 cloves of garlic, jalepeno or cayenne, mix in olive oil slowly and as desires (1/2 -1 cup) (vitamix or blender) ((I usually keep a quart of this made up at all times)

green patte -- sunflower seeds, any greens, cayenne, lemon or lime, jalepeno, garlic, sea salt, olive oil (food process)

green patte goes great on greens, celery, Nori, carrots, bell pepper, squash, etc...

Trail mix --1/2 cup raisen, 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds, 1/2 cup sunflower seeds, 1/2 cup of shredded coconuts.

Hummus -sprouted chick peas, garlic, tahini, salt, lemon, jalepeno --food process

watermelon soup-watermelon juice, salt, & onions

mango cucumber salad -mango ,cucumber, onion, lime

mud slide -Alissas book

I hope all goes well! I'll be thinking of you!

I just had this for dinner:

2 red/orange/yellow bell peppers quartered to look like "scoops"
1 avocado
1 tomato (roma tomatoes are my fav)
handful of sprouts (I used clover)
lemon

-mash the avocado and sprouts together in a bowl, add diced tomatoes
-squeeze the lemon all over the peppers and into the bowl mixture...
-spoon the avosproutomato mix onto each pepper scoop and enjoy the fantastic crunch!!! :D

It's surprisingly filling :)

i don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but my first thought was smoothies. fruit or green or whatever.

i told my family if i ever have to have surgery again, that's what i want while i'm in the hospital and those first days after coming home.

Thanks for all of the info!! It's actually out-patient, but my mom wanted me to stay overnight because I don't react well to anesthesia. The surgery is like at 10:30am and I'll leave around 3-4pm. Maybe 5 if I'm doing bad. And I might make up smoothies since I don't think my mom knows what I like. Thanks for the tip! ^_^

So far I've made "oatmeal" from one of the threads (I've been eating it sooo much since yesterday) and I'll make some soups now and freeze some smoothies and bring a cooler and then have it on the way home so my blood sugar doesn't get low.

Thanks everyone for the recipes!! I'm actually more active than last time and the surgery went well and I'm doing great, just some pain. I came home and ate and fed myself. Also opened a coconut and drank the water with my meal because I know I need electrolytes. But just wanted to update ya'll!!
