I am a cyclist. I have been raw on and off for a year. I need information on maximizing raw energy for long rides, like 4-5 hours, 2 times a week. I also need to do this as cheap as possible.
Can anyone with experience and the knowledge help direct me to the right intake from a raw diet? I just don't know where to start. However, I know the green juices work wonders for me!
Thanks,
Chris :)
I work out very hard everyday, I have been raw for over a year. I eat a lot of bananas! They seem to be the only food that really fills me up. I also make buckwheat shakes with bananas, and an almond butter shake with bananas, both very filling and gives me a more bulkier food in the morning.
I sometimes consume 9 bananas a day! Almost all in smoothies or almond butter smothering a banana! They are an inexpensive food too!
Good Luck!

i'm a cyclist too :)

sesame seeds are great too, hummus beforehand gives me a ton of energy, and obviously water water water. though i've never tried it, what about mixing some agave with water as a faux-sports drink, or finding someway to carry a table spoon or so of agave in a small baggy and make your own "energy gel" packet for mid-ride? or celery blended up in water provides a good electrolyte-replenishing drink.
good luck

just as an afterthought: how about tossing a few dates into your jersey pockets or beneath your seat in your bag? dates i bet would be fantastic.

branching off from what eatyourbroccoli said, maybe honey water too?

I was going to likewise suggest dates. Also coconut milk before and after rides.

I don't have any suggestions as of yet (I'm still pretty new to the raw foods), but I just wanted to add that I'm training for a triathlon and do very long hours of endurance cardio.
I'm looking forward to seeing what other suggestions and ideas people add here to help you out.
Do you race? Are you an on road or off road cyclist? I used to do tons of moutain biking when I lived in the northeast, now I have to stick to road races down here in Anguilla....no off road trails, etc. to ride on...
My goal is to do Exterra races and eventually a Primal Quest.
