My grocery store had some wheatgrass! So of course, I had to try it.
I tried blending it in the Vitamix with an apple. It tasted like grass and when I ate it, it felt like I was chewing my cud. Definitely a loser of a recipe!
Luckily, it was only $1.49, not much of an investment to throw away.

If you have a twin gear juicer then you can juice it and add the juice to the smoothie instead. It should be a little better that way.

I used the Vitamix and blended wheatgrass with a little water, strained the juice off with a nut milk (paint strainer) bag and used the juice in my smoothie.
Yeah, wheatgrass is definitely something that isn't meant for human consumption (meaning the WHOLE grass) because the pulp I strained off looked like fibers and I was just experimenting and dehydrated it and I would've sworn I could have made an article of clothing with that stuff it was so fibrous!

Blend and strain and then add to the smoothie?
Nah, that's too much work! LOL! I'm a one-step cook. I guess I'll reserve my wheat-grass consumption for my annual trips to the juice bar. I seem to manage a trip every year on my birthday, but that's about it.

LOL... I know it seems like a lot of work, but I don't do it each time. What I do is freeze the juice into cubes and once frozen, I store in a ziploc bag and anytime I want the juice in my smoothie, I just toss a couple of them into the smoothie with everything else. I figured since they SELL frozen wheatgrass cubes, 'might as well try it myself at home. I may or may not be getting the full benefits, but I'm sure I'm getting some.

At whole foods they have wheatgrass in ice cube trays in a package in the freezer section! So it's all prepared. I will get the company name later and post it.

I add a bit of wheatgrass (minus the roots) to my smoothies, not a ton of it, and it has an OK flavor. But so does parsley and watercress, so the strong flavor is not really an issue. I have no problem with the fibers, because I'm test driving a Ktec and it's just "smoothie" when it's done. Like a thick shake.
Let's put it this way: by the time the flavor is dispersed throughout the banana/mango/cucumber/celery/ginger/cinnamon/kale mixture, it's hard to tell WHAT's in there anymore. It's delicious.
But I KNOW I wouldn't like it with just apple and a bunch of wheatgrass. WAY too strong tasting that way.
Isn't experimenting fun? ;-)
