My husband makes red and white wine in our basement. I asked him last night and he said that he doesn't use any heat in the process. Is it raw?

besides grapes, what else does he use in his process? I guess it would depend on that!

Where does he get the grape juice from? Is it pasteurized?

He said he uses a cultured yeast

No he said it's not pasteurized.

I would investigate the grape juice for sure, because unless he's picking his own grapes and stomping on them like Lucy and Ethel, he's probably getting them either concentrated or bottled or something. I don't know that he can get grape juice that's been freshly squeezed without it producing bacteria before it gets to him. Thus the pasteurization.

However, if you are not strictly 100% raw and including things like miso, a little salad dressing, questionable "dried" fruit (not sundried), frozen fruit in smoothies, some nama shoyu (there's wheat in there too), dehydrated foods, and other things here and there then I wouldn't worry about having a little wine for now.

The yeast sounds live, but certainly not considered a 'fresh' food (didn't come right off a plant or tree and was processed) - then again, something to consider based on your level of rawness and purity.

The sugar he uses is highly processed. My ex use to make it also.

Hi Everyone,

The old wine question.

I say it's raw. No heat.

I say if you want to have a glass go right ahead.

Filtering the wine is a big question.

Some filters are made with animal bladders. Some are made from plastic or other manmade materials.

I can't get a straight answer....so throw caution to the wind and enjoy one of life's greatest pleasures.

Tonight it's a new Merlot of all things from HERON VINEYARDS.

Peace,

M.B.

MB probably the stuff you get that was bottled at the vineyard is made with more natural, fresher ingredients.

No he doesn't use sugar. He get's it from the vinyard and he just adds yeast.
