Friday nite is my man's b-day dinner and what do you know?? It's one of the fav spots! They cook right in front of you and a big group at the same table and their salads consist of cabbage and dressing or miso soup. Any suggestions, is the wine raw?? Maybe I can get away with that all night.. :) It was one of our fav eating/drinking spots. And I don't want to stand out completely since my friends and I have always ordered the sushi and all shared it. Help!

I hear yah!, I used to love those places too.
this is what I do when I am there, first, most wine is raw, but has sulfites, so it is up to you if you choose to drink it, (I don't drink) but many raw foodists do, it's a personal choice.
I see nothing wrong in having some wine in your raw lifestyle if that is your choice.
I ask the wait person, to bring my salad with no dressing, and a lemon wedge, then I ask the chef to NOT cook any of my veggies, I order usually the chicken, which is the least expensive meal, give my cooked food to my lover, and I get all those wonderful yummy veggies, without any cooking.
Yes, it can draw attention to you, but your health is worth it, and you are still there with your boyfriend, and eating with him, and enjoying it all,
usually they have a sukiyaki plate, or simply some bean sprouts and zuccini, mushrooms, onion, etc, which are raw, that they can give you in a Tempan Yaki dish, just ask the wait person, or even the chef, and you'll be fine.
I don't order the vegetarian, because it usually has tofu, and my bf doesn't like it, so I just order the chicken, and give it to him.
the lemon makes a perfect accompanyment to the fresh veggies, and if you choose, you can even bring a bit of your own dressing from home a raw herbal dressing or something like that.
I have even brought my own nama shoyu to those places to enjoy, no one has ever said anything, occasionally, they will ask me if I really want all my food raw, and that is always a fun joke, because the chef will EVERY TIME, attempt to place the chicken on my plate raw, and everyone laughs, but it's all in good humor an fun, and I feel great after the meal, while everyone else is sitting back, rubbing their stomaches because they are so full.
anyway, that is what I do.

you can also have them make you the sushi rolls with no sushi of course, but just tell them not to roll them in the rice and that you want avocado, carrot, celery, cucumber, or whatever rolled between nori.

please know that the nori that is used in restaurants are usually toasted nori, the rice isn't raw, but the veggies are, so that is a great suggestion too.
most of all, enjoy your time with your bf. :o)

I didn't know their Nori was toated. That is good to know. I have a gift certificate to a sushi bar so I think I will take my own Nori rolls and add their veggies to them.

Thanks guys! I was really dreading it. I will ask for just a plate of my veggies and maybe I 'll drink a green drink before I go, so hopefully that will keep me full!! I guess with me raw, our bill will be cheaper! :)

Are you talking about Miki's perhaps :) ? Hubby and I used to go there once a month as a treat because we loved it so much but one time several months ago while I was still struggling with becoming 100% raw, I had been raw for like 2 weeks and I failed by having a full cooked dinner there and it really wasn't as good as I remembered it. It looked and smelled amazing but it wasn't worth failing on raw for and I always remember that. You may not be talking about Miki's but can you ask for a raw salad with lemon wedges instead of dressing. They should have a salad there.

Tori's on Oakdale! It's usually a long drawn out night-drinks up front, then long dinner plus appetizers in the back, stuff like that! I just didn't want to stand out like a sore thumb. You know, when people are like...'Why aren't you eating"....It's funny how food goes hand in hand with emotions and events isn't it? I think I'm gonna stuff my stuff at home first! :)

Ah. Yeah it is crazy how much food really influences people. It has always seemed unhealthy to me when it gets out of hand and people can't go enjoy themselves without food.
