hi
when anyone started the challenge did they suffer from cold sores or bloating of the stomach, I have not felt at all well today, maybe its because of my periods? Dunno, anyway if anyone has ideas about this or how to stop it they are more than welcome.

yes, for me it was detox and it eventually past and I felt soooo much better. I was soooo bloated I went to the doctor because I thought, I got to be pregnant! I had cold sores too. Many times if this happens it may be digestion issues due to food combination, but I think when you are first starting out that this is more of a detox issue.

Breakouts, sluggishness, moody, crying, bloating... sounds like PMS yes?
Well for me it wasn't. It is and was my body throwing off the garbage. Extra water helps me too. Take nice bubble bath, jump into some comfy jammies, grab your favorite Teddybear and curl up in bed with a good book or just rest.
Be good to yourself and STICK WITH IT! it will pass :)

sounds like detox to me, especially in the first couple months raw.
it will pass, and you will feel soooooooo much better and lighter and more energetic.

My mouth still gets sore -- sensitive teeth, cracked/dry lips, taste of metal -- and I have been raw for almost 60 days. The effects are less than before, so just stick with it!!!

Funny you should mention both of those symptoms, because I've got 'em both right now! I've been 100% raw since February, and I still get episodes of these. They do pass, but I find it interesting since I never used to get either before raw . . . Could it be anything besides detox?

I know cold sores and bloating happened to me when I started. I found that eating my greens blended or juiced in the beginning helps, so my body wasn't overloaded with fiber it wasn't used to, and taking it easy on the nuts also. Drinking a LOT of water... it helps to flush old things out and hydrate the body!
So as for cold sores... They do often appear around the time of menstruation.. They have been present in my life since I was a kid and I 100% believe they can be cured and I am 100% committed to curing them from my body forever. I am still reading about it, and I find there isn't a whole lot of information out there, but if you would like to hear more about anything i've found that worked for me please let me know :)

The same thing happens when juice fasting. When your body is detoxifying, the immune system is supressed and you can get sick easily, break-out, etc. When you adapt a raw lifestyle your body is detoxifying (as you clearly know). Though the detoxification process through raw is much longer and less harsh than fasting, I figure you can still experince the same symptoms.

thanks to everyone for their responses, I have less bloating today, but a slight funny taste in my mouth, my skin generally is clearer and my rings under my eyes are reducing. I have very loose stools and very frequent ones too!!!
Sorry for that detail!
Other than that sunshine, i would love to hear what you find out! ;)

Thanks for posting that link, Smiley24_7.
There are various essential oils with anti-bacterial/antiseptic qualities that work on cold sores, but most are for topical treatments and are not meant for absorption through the inside of the mouth.
Grapefruit Seed Extract is good and can be used inside the mouth (sparingly, or diluted); it seems to stop it from getting worse at the very least.
I've not had the kind of sores inside my lip or mouth since I was a child; but I've gotten heat sores on my outer lip during the summer when I've been out in the heat and/or been dehydrated. So that may be what some of those sores are for you. You can feel them coming. It feels hot at first, then itchy. Next it looks reddish, then it's probably too late. If you can catch it at the first sign -- the "heat" feeling -- an essential oil or grapefruit seed extract or hydrogen peroxide will prevent it. The main thing is to NOT consume any food after applying. So try to eat quickly, clean it, apply treatment and keep from touching it. Use a straw to drink. When you eat again, try to avoid touching it; and, again, clean it immediately afterwards and reapply whatever ointment you've chosen.
Pure Eucalyptus oil works well at the first sign of one as well. Use sparingly. I use a cotton swab (Q-Tip) to apply. Use a fresh one each application.

Hi there! I haven't read the other posters' suggestions yet, but I'm sure they were all great. They have been here longer than I!! I believe more experience leads to more learning, & hopefully, more insights & wisdom. :D
Bloating is horrid! It does go away though. So stay tough! :D I've fasted before, & detox was A LOT worse than detoxing eatting raw. I'll just share what I think one should do while detoxing w/ the experience of having fasted on only water & then going completely raw. W/ yrs. of SAD, our environment, & you might still be using toxic substances around the home(laundry, air fresheners, etc.), the body hates those substances & does its best to keep our body healthy by utilizing the energy we have to clean the body as much as it can.
I'm not sure about your activity level. During the detox period, I really think you should rest as much as you can. By resting, you'll save your body lots of energy. It can then use that energy to do some major cleaning! Some people are concerned about resting, & it may lead to weight gain. Have no fear! Like a prior post I read(not sure who wrote it, but it was awesome!), there's no use in putting in the best quality oil every time you do an oil change for your car, while the car itself cannot utilize it, b/c the rest of the car's parts can no longer or aren't functioning good enough. I don't really understand car lingo & can't really put it better than the original poster of that analogy. Sorry! The thing is putting raw food into our body is like putting in the best-quality oil into a run-down car that hasn't been tuned up for several years(like our run-down body that hasn't recieved proper nutrition for several yrs!)
Ahem! :D So once you're done going through this detox crisis, you're on your way to become a pimped up ride (got this from the show 'pimp your ride.' Is it called that? hehe). Whatever you're eatting will be utilized by your body much much better. There are 2 outcomes that I can think of:
1) You'll have so much energy from the raw food you eat
2) If & when you're in tune to your body's needs, you may find that you don't crave or need as much food to feel full or maybe over full. :D
Oh Oh. One more pt. that I learned while fasting. Besides resting, you may want to juice your fruits or veggies. So your body doesn't have to use too much energy to digest food while detoxing. But if you do crave chewing food, then that would also be fine as long as you're feeling healthy!
Goodluck. Happy ( :p ) detoxing!

Man, you are singing to the choir! I posted about a week ago about cold sore/canker sores. I have been raw since november, and from the first week of raw, i have battled with them! to to point of not even finding pleasure in eating. I never seemed to be without one. However, thru TONS of research, I came to the conclusion that I needed to flush my liver to assist it in helping with the detox. So, needless to say, after my first flush, I haven't experienced an onset of canker sores. We'll see how it goes.
Blessings,
Summer :D
