Hi there,
I have been reading these message boards for awhile now, and I wanted to finally say hi, as I would love some more support from people about this way of life.
I guess a little bit of info on myself would be helpful. ;)
I have been eating high raw for a few months now. I've even done 2 2 week OJ cleanses.

My brother first introduced me to raw as he had a few books, but I think I've got way more books than him now! I just purchased Alissa's book, and have made 1 recipe so far (as today is the last day of my 2nd OJ cleanse) and I'm raring to go for some of her other recipes.

I live in Melbourne Australia, and would love to chat to other aussies. I would love to have a RAW potluck here in Melbourne. I'm trying to organise one with just the family (brother and sister) as they do eat high RAW too. My parents aren't that into RAW but I do make them big juices and little RAW snacks when I see them. My partner is also not RAW. But he is interested, and at the moment he is living in Israel and hoping to be living in Australia soon. *fingers crossed it doesn't take too long*

I work in a team that develops websites.

So anyway, I'm looking forward to meeting some new friends.

Thanks for posting on this great site, that is an amazing support network for people from all over the world.

xx Beck

Hi Beck
Fiona in Sydney here. Would love to have a Raw potluck too, but a trip to Melbourne's probably out of the question atm ;)

I just got Alissa book and found it wonderful reading.

Hope you & partner can be reunited soon and keep each other company on the road to Raw ... :)

Welcome, I'm in Australia too, between us we should be able to pressure the organic wholesalers to stock the products we need. Let the hounding begin!
:p

I'm North of Brisbane.

This is a great place to chat, learn, share and get support about raw.

HI Caramba, thanks for your well wishes. How long have you been RAW? Where in Sydney are you? I have some great friends in Sydney and am usually there a couple of times a year. I love it.

HI Rawmum, thanks for the post.
How old is your son? How long have you been raw for? 2 Sydney people, that's great. Us Aussies are getting there. Did you hear about the guy in Sydney who is trying to patent the Raw? I think you can get more information about it from www.raw-pleasure.com and go to the message boards there. I was shocked when I read about that.

Hi Sweet Goddes, Nice of you to say hello. I've been looking at your journal. It is really interesting and quite funny in parts.

Hi SamL, north of Brisbane. What are the fruits like up there?
I go shopping at a big market here and can find heaps of things. One thing I was looking for for ages was Durian, and I couldn't find it at the market and then I went to a Coles in the middle of the city and they had them!!! Bizarre.

Another thing I think is quite funny is the different names of fruit/Vegies or Herbs between the Americans/Aussies and English.

I was reading about cilantro, and I had no idea what it was. Then only found out that it was coriander. Also cherimoya's, I think they are custard apples. That is one fruit that is one of my favourites.

One of my good friends lives in Brisbane and another has a holiday house in Noosa, so we sometimes go up your way for a week in winter. It is fantastic when it's hot in winter.

What kinds of stock are you having trouble finding?

Hi Beck,

I tried a Durian the other day, same thing, supermarket isle. It's an aquired taste, I still have the second one I was so bold to buy unopened
CUstard apples are definately my choice when it comes to that texture.

At the moment the stock I want to find is an online, bulk organic raw nuts, seeds and grains. It's getting pricey buying smaller pkts often, I'm anxious to stock up.

Some other things I was hoping to get online, in Australia:

raw honey
raw coconut oil
raw carob powder
raw almond butter (till my new juicer arrives)
raw tahini

It would be great if they had the one online store to stock up on all raw products from..

I'm 7 hrs North of Brisbane, produce is a bit harder for me to find. I've found some local farmers and organic produce, but the other items are in short supply.

Sam

Hi Sam L, that is true about Durian, I'm still not too sure but am going to give it another try. I just found a recipe on this site with Durian. It is supposed to be like a Tapioca pudding. Yumm I have to try it.

Oh bulk order or raw nuts. I would love that too. They are so expensive. Have you found agave nector anywhere? I know the www.raw-pleasure.com site stocks a few things that are hard to find. I have bought a few things from them and they are really good. They have blenders that are like the Vita Mix but much cheaper. They are in Queensland too.

My cousin lives in Cairns, and she had the best Mango tree right inher front yard. I was soooo jealous!! *laugh*

How are you finding living there?

Are you from NZ?

Rawmum, I know I couldn't believe it either about that guy trying to patent Raw Food. I should post the link.http://raw-pleasure.com/pleasureboard/index.php?showtopic=196

Good luck with the Raw foods and the family. Do you have any favourite recipes??

I love the mushrooms that Alissa makes. And I tried the NOri rolls last night!! Oh yummmmmmmmm
